Hi, does anyone know if these are being reproduced? Is anyone selling og's? I think these are the most elegant solution for turnsignals |

I don't think they are being reroduced.
They were made by Hella, and they also fitted Goliath cars.
Here is a scan from a 1955 catalog.

Someone other than us is working on making these, not sure of the timeline though, maybe they will post an update here.

That is the one good thing that has ever come from marrying a German. I have in-laws infesting every corner of that country. |

someone over there is nuts
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...AMEWA%3AIT
Can someone tell me if these are metal or plastic? The brochure scan above says they are plastic?
The ones in the first auction at the beginning of the thread are deffo plastic.
The ones above look different to me as they have a clear lense and a different serial number than the ones shown in the catalogue.
Maybe these are a US spec only as the catalogue scan states they were available with orange lense only |

They look like the real deal to me.
The number on the lense is not the hella part number. Hella did this with all their stuff.
They look all plastic to me. If you look where the screws are, it looks like clear plastic with the silver underneath. |

They are all plastic and then vacuum chrome electroplated. Another custom parts maker is still working on making them over time, and for good reason.
Alot of folks forget that it only makes sense to reproduce items that can see a return on (up front) investment costs, which also gets figured into the piece price to custom make them and then to have them plated. These won't be inexpensive to reproduce as a set either, and there is also the bulb holder assembly to figure in, and possibly having to make rubber fender gaskets. Amortized and fabricating costs alone (not retail) for producing a pair of these (in the US) I estimate may easily reach $250, and if someone decides instead to try and make them in the Far East you have to shell out at about $15K (non negotiable) up front for hundreds of pairs, which is a risky investment that you need to store someplace in bulk.
From there the maker has to carefully decide how much to actually price them at, and the maker needs to know the nature of the accessory market cold, knowing the market price volatility for originals, and more importantly, how does your reproduction quality compare to the originals? Also, if you can't meet or beat og quality, the value of the reproduction drops like a stone, and there goes your return on investment goal. Further, as supply and demand changes market price, it can be a challenge to actually profit from such an item like this. In the case of Alex fetching a high price for the originals on Ebay, that is maybe a spike in price there, but chances are he will have more of these for some time, so at this time its relatively reasonable to think the next set will sell for less, at least until the supply dries up, so deciding when to make them is very important to consider as well.
But, if the price for originals approaches and seems to remain over $600 its seems maybe like a feasible venture to maybe fabricate a dozen quality sets that maybe you could sell close to the $400 range, and thats only if you think someone will indeed pay that much for these as even a quality reproduction. But, maybe in the end for all the risk, time and effort to make and sell that dozen or so pairs over 2-3 years you maybe make $1000, but remember just one or two retooling/quality problems all profit is gone and then some. Its easy for reproduction part projects to turn into charity projects for anyone (hobbyist or businessman), many interesting risks to think about, but the more you think about the approach, apply lessons learned, etc., the greater the chances of success are.
