i hear that.
betsy's also taught me to look at the first place the problem could be started at (ie not replacing my cap, rotor, wires, and plugs when im already flat broke untill i've pulled the ignition wiring out of the column.)
- its not fast, but it sure is fun to pretend it is.
- every single uncle, auntie, and cousin i have over the age of 40 has a volkswagon story, and they all bring a huge smile to their faces
- your wife thinks she has it rough? my neighbor gave birth to twins in a split window bug. that'll make you hate vdubs _________________ 1980 (aircooled) vanagon with a bunch of problemos.

1. Ask questions first.
2. A butter knife is not a flathead screwdriver. See: skinned knuckles
3. Wheel bearings need grease.
4. I do NOT really need a stereo with an amplifier and big speakers.
5. Everyone else is going too fast.
6. Pretending a noise isn't really there will only make it louder.

1. NEVER let a non-vw (ie use Samba person) inspect your prospective purchase (even if they are part of an automotive inspection service) before you buy it.
2. The PO of my new oval (fully restored when bought) is a complete MORON, not only does he know nothing about VWs (even less than me I think), he is a complete hack. All fuses were removed from the car and I won't go into further details but everything seems to be F'd up.
3. SAMBA people are the best, always helpful and encourageing, Thanks _________________ 57 Oval (with creative engineering)

Things I learned from VWs (mine and others), after 20 years in the hobby:
1. VWs demand an ounce of blood every time you approach one with tools.
2. No matter how bad they look, those cuts will heal.
3. If the dipstick is too hot to touch, you might have a problem.
4. You CAN rewire a car with Romex.
5. ...Or speaker wire.
6. ...Or lamp cord.
7. Always adjust your own valves.
8. Always carry extra oil. Like a case of it.
The lessons continue to this day... _________________ 1964 Standard Beetle

1. When buying your 2nd, 3rd , 4th etc. vw make sure they are the same color & never park then at the same location. That way your wife thinks you only own ONE!
2. Give the neighbor's kids rides in the vert from time to time. This may help when you are turned in to the Home Owners Assocation for having non-running vehicals stored on your property.
3. always carry a cell phone & never drive without a pair of shoes. |

1. Get a VW horn. Otherwise you'll spend hours trying to make the bracket not contact ground.
2. Always use loctite on brake bolts. Otherwise you'll be buying a new caliper.
3. Adjust your valves, chances are, the PO didn't.
4.Adjust your timing, chances are, the PO didn't.
5.Tune your carbs, chances are, the PO didn't.
6.I'm not cut out for restorations. It's dry climates and 'patina' from here on out. _________________ http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=366056 - My '73 Super Build. 2332cc, 16" Fuchs |
