Were the stock mats factory cut above the steering column?

Since my car is disassembled I would like to have that spot not cut - if that was factory

No cut. You have to remove the column, shaft and seal to install the bulkhead matt.

Hey Luis,

How about a production update?

UP-DATE

Dear All,

Besides the hard personal situation after my Dad's passing, it has been a cold winter in New Hampshire. Production has been slower that I wanted, as I can't apply the chemicals below frizzing temperatures, and most of the days had been below zero degrees centigrade. Slowly but surely all orders are been fulfilled.

I was able to finish the first batch of Sound Absorber Under-Mats. If you want your set, this is the time to order so I can make the second batch. I have few orders, but I need at least 15 for the water-jet shop to do the job. The sets came great, they fit like a glove and look original, providing an excellent noise deadening solution.

Also, I made the molds for the latter model floor mats. You can check that Forum blog if interested.

Spring is coming soon and the plan is to make all pending sets as soon as possible!

Luis

Hi Luis,
What do you recommend for cleaning the mats? Any updates on the Karmann Ghia money clip?

Hi Luis,
Any update about the sound absorber sets? I ordered mine before you sent the materials for the first batch to the waterjet shop and have no news about it.
Regards
Jose

With warm weather approaching , I decided to get the car out and do a wash and wax. This included detailing the inside and new Lowlight Werks interior.

I used a diluted solution of Bleach White and water to remove the shoe marks on the grey interior and immediately wiped down two or three times with a wet cloth. Bleach White is great on White Walls but dose require to be wiped and rinsed as it is caustic.

Ha! I've been a bit prissy after installing my Lowlight Werks mats...I've placed my carpet mats over the drivers mat to protect against any shoe scuffs. Unfortunately I didn't relaise the underside of the carpet mats had picked up a couple of tar spots form my original sound absorbers transferring it onto my pristine rubber mats. Shocked

A quick swab with White Spirit and washed off with water brough them back like new. Smile

Can you give an update regarding the status of the pending mat orders?

Hi Rob,

Finally the weather is getting better! There are still few icy spots in my house, but they are melting fast.
I started reconditioning the production area this week and I was able to make a set yesterday!
I am preparing an update with more information that I will post soon.

Luis

Luis hasn't logged on since the 23rd ( 22nd USA time). I'm wondering if there's a holiday weekend in those parts?

BTW, moderators are supposed to remove posts that are just emoticons. So please resist chaining those. Text is clearer.

Hello fellow Ghia lovers,

Things have neither gone great nor are they worst-case, but I surely
anticipated everyone would have had their mats before the start of bad
weather last fall.

Unfortunately, working out the problems with the technology took over
twice as long as anticipated and by the time I was ready to begin full-on
production, bad weather had set in, and this both slowed production and
increased costs.

At the end of last year, I started the store for the 60’s mats sets after
over 30 people expressed their interest, so far I have less than 30
orders, when I was expecting to get around 50 to have the needed cash
flow.

I remain determined to fill every order, and I will make sure that's the
case, though it has been much longer than everyone, including me,
expected. The mat campaign started about a year ago and some of the best
news is that all the molds and production line is ready, so now all the
elements to manufacture all the mats is done.

It seems like every time I get things done a wrench gets into the works,
and perhaps you can imagine how difficult this can be. I am providing a
fantastic product and have helped many Ghia owners complete their
restorations to a higher level, and so far without any profit for me. I am
sure that many in the Ghia community - especially those who already have
their mats - appreciate all the sacrifice required.

The main profit from this business so far has been the satisfaction of
having successfully created the molds and having satisfied as many of the
orders as I could. But the delay in getting production going has depleted
all remaining funds and I am now forced to look for alternative work in
order to pay my mortgage, raise my children and otherwise provide.

Fortunately, I am just starting a new engineering project with an investor
that will provide the cash I need. The problem is that it will take 4-8
weeks before he can start the investment.

Of course, if I'm working for someone else, I won't have as much time for
the mats and can perhaps get only one set out a week. I was hoping that
new mat orders would solve the problem, especially as the more than 20
mats sets I've already created - close to half the original orders - have been
delivered and I was thinking word-of-mouth advertising would kick in, but
this hasn't happened. Perhaps I over-estimated the size of the market, or
it might be that some people are nervous since all the original orders
haven't been filled yet. I can't know.

An up-tick in orders right now would perhaps solve the problem entirely.

Alternatively, I must find other work, and the pace of delivery will slow.

An additional alternative is that I am open to the right person or company
partnering with me to help get the mats produced more quickly. I have
already been discussing the possibility of setting up the shop somewhere else
in a more friendly climate for year-round production with someone who is
already a well-known and respected member of the Karmann Ghia community
but they aren't in a position to fund the mat production any faster than I
can fund getting them the supply materials. I am open to talking with
other parties who may have better financial backing to produce more
quickly, and of course I'm ready to train them, and help with whatever
else is required; my commitment is to YOU, the buyers - I will NOT let you
down.

Whatever it takes, I will find a solution to fulfill every order, though
it is already taking longer than anyone wants. Rest assured everyone will
get their mats.

Kind Regards,

Luis
