Hello all,
I am glad the color discussion is on. Mostly everybody will want to have the correct color match between your mats and your car's body color and manufactured date. Some don't care.
First, even if the reproduction mat will fit almost any Ghia, it is the correct part from chassis No. 1 154 228 up to 2 528 667, for both types: 141,143 (57'& 58' & 59" Convertibles and Coupes).
We know, from an earlier post, that for those years it came in several different colors, at least:
GREY mats:Toucan Black Coupe, Cognac Coupe, Cardenal Red Coupe, Dolphin Blue Coupe
BEIGE mats:Brilliant Red Coupe, Graphite Silver Cab.
BLUE mats: Bernina Cab tbc
GREEN: mats: Aero Silver Coupe, Bambus Coupe
I noticed various request for black mats, may be they were never made, BUT, we can consider BLACK.
There are two options, a good one and a great one.
The good option is to make them all one color and use rubber paint to paint them ANY color. That is what I did, I painted mine using SEM 15723 MONTEREY paint, as it was the correct match for a 58 Graphite Silver Cab BEIGE mats. You may have to retouch them eventually.
The great option is to color the rubber at production. If there is enough drive, this may be consider, but for know, the plan it to make them in one color, grey.
If you have mote info, please share. |

depends on the method of production but my guess is that there will be one mold and hand mixing for every pour. Most of the products come tintable so it is not difficult to make several different colors once you have determined the proper mix.
You can spray the mats but it quickly wears off. |

I just look at Loren's post and I believe he is right. It points that they were made black and added a color layer on top.
Not sure if they were painted during or after the manufacturing process. If it was a permanent layer, it would be a much more expensive manufacturing process. What do you think Loren? |

I'm not sure how the factory added the color to the mats. The color seems more durable than a paint layer, but maybe they had better paints back then. I think paint would last quite a while on the bulk head mats since they don't get wear like the floor and sill mats, so paint might be a good option. I guess it will all depend on price and feasibility. |

Exciting news and I hope you can make this come together. Like others, I paid for 2 bulkheads a few years ago and am now just $800 poorer. If this really happens, I'm good for at least 2, possibly more. _________________ 1950 Pearl Grey Hoffman Standard Split Window

Thank you RockStock for the information. According to this information I would choose a green mat instead of a black one. |

I don't know why I thought that... It was half rubber half carpet in that period.
thanks for clarifying. |

No problem and on a positive note you no longer have to buy a bulkhead matt. Do you have the foot well vents up front or by the A pilar, just wondering when that changed? they are in early position in july owners manual but suspect they may have already changed? |

Thanks for that! Sorry if I led anyone astray, I guess the owners manuals were struggling to keep pace with changes early on. I found a pic of this early one and remnants of og matt chassis number 1166316...
