Bought a new wiring harness for my '72. The installation instructions call for removal of the left quarter panel to remove the old harness and feed in the new one. My (perhaps) dumb question is how to remove the left quarter panel? Or, is removal absolutely necessary? Thanks.

The instructions are likely suggesting removal of the interior inside panel. No need to break out the cutting tools. You can see the clip that hold the harness in this pic behind interior panel.

Get a long wire, send it through from the engine compartment hole in the firewall, attach the harness to the wire, wrap it with tape, pull it back through the engine compartment....Easy Peasy!

There exists an extension to the bulkhead going over the top of the wheel arch and with Jute padding against the inner quarter panel. You'll fine a hole in that piece for the wiring loom. Remember to add a grommet to the hole to protect the loom long term.

Where the wiring harness comes out in the engine compartment. The jute stuff was missing, I used a Styrofoam 'rope' from Lowes to stuff in the gap. I tried to put a grommet around the hole, not much luck so I used a electrical panel 'cable grip'
