Here only the 'normal' Assistents just before I pulled them out of the garage for the line-up.

Say hello to my new firend
Been looking for a 172 HD for a while now, found it on vw forum back Home...
Anyone that knows how old it is? Looks pretty new. Maybe late 70s?

Hey ☺️
Yeah, could be mid to late 70´s. Brochure is from 1971 after the first "facelift" with the second shutter for the lower part.

Assistent 161 in use in Mercedes Niederlassung workshop, sometime in the early sixties. Extract from a Mercedes Werksvideo |

Hi guys,
I am new to this feed. I bought a couple of Hazet assistents a few weeks ago and I am looking for some pre-65 rubber profiles.
I am not sure whether to respray or keep as patina look?
My father made the frame work for the stool and the lock. If I keep it as a patina look then think I will just lacquer the stool rather than spray it black.
Also anyone know the exact model number and rough age?
Thanks,
Andrew

Andrew,
Your Assistant is a 1956-57. Model number 161. I would suggest painting it. They never came in yellow. They did however come in Blue or White.

Hi Blackdog,
Thanks very much for the information. It is much appreciated. Do you know of anyone/place selling the original style rubber profiles for the top 2 shelves?
Thanks,
Andrew

I Looked for it and can let the early style rubbers made. It will be the one without the plastic or copper center thread. The initial cost to let the mold made is quite high so I want to check if there's some interest for the rubbers or not. Please let me know?
Would use this as an example:

Don't think I'll let the profiles made.
Because the mold is costing quite some money it would be around 25euro/tray to cover my costs and risk of getting stuck with many meters profile. I also asked another firm about it but they make it par batch and that would result in 25000 to 50000 of profile so that's no option to.

Hi Wout,
That is a shame. Is there any chance you could send me the dimensions or a cross section of the profile?
Thanks,
Andrew |

Hi Andrew
Yes indeed but money and effort is not worth the risk to get stuck with many meters profile and the interest up to now is almost none.
Sent you the sketch. Maybe there's somewhere a profile that can be bought from the shelf that matches?
