|
|
I have been told that a mid 60's (1965 to be exact) Bug would have come from the factory with fender welting colored to match the paint, and that the fenders would have been painted seperately then bolted on with the matching color welting. Is this correct? I've got a '65 Bug that I want to paint Sea Blue (L360 which is a factory color for that year). I'm trying to go back to a stock factory condition, so if a Sea Blue Bug would have had a matching Sea Blue fender welting I'd like to find a source for it. Anyone know where I could find such an item?
Thanks,
Scott |

I recently bought some OEM Fontana Gray beading for my '65 and payed way more than that. BUY it ! Yes, your car should have body colored fender beading. My Fontana Gray car even has body colored running board mats (If I ever find any !) _________________ Midwest Autosavers, Inc. Woodstock, IL |

Has anyone ever tried to paint the standard black fender beading seperately from the car? I would suspect the problem might be that flexing of the beading during installation might flake the paint off. If there is some way to make the paint more flexible it might help.
Anyone with any experience with this? |

You need to start with quality German beading and staple it to a 2x4. Prep & paint with the commercial products that you use to paint modern flexible bumpers. It is a pain in the a$$. The last car I did I painted the 1st coat then installed scuffed, quality beading then finished painting the car. It looked just as nice. _________________ Midwest Autosavers, Inc. Woodstock, IL |

I just bought some Ruby Red fender beading for my 66 project.... I found it at Wolfsburg West, and noticed they had some other colors as well. Check out their website.
