Muchos Thank you.

See, I never knew that........thanks for pointing it out. Cool No shots fired yet....

I'll be sure to take you up on that offer, I have my friend (rich from bigbulli.com) who's also said he'd lend a hand once I know what I'm looking for.

As far as parts go...........South Africa has nothing in the way of deluxe parts, it's all going to be brought in.

How come you kept the DC Gary? I guess all that interest convinced you it was too good to sell eh?
Well if you need to raise cash for the Samba, give me first dibs on the Crewie please.
wasn't there something about a Porsche speedster project also?

Long story there.

The DC was up for sale as I was looking locally for a speedster a while later the bank came back and approved my application for money to finish off my house and build a second garage. At that stage I decided to keep the crew cab and removed the sale.

When the 23 window came around, I put the bus up for sale again with the guy that was first from the original sale (andy carrol UK) and we've been talking for a while regarding the sale of the DC and in fact I sent him a LOT 90+ pictures yesterday pointing out the good and the bad for him to decide on for once and for all. He said he's going to let me know within 24 hours and unfortunatly I'm off to the states tommorrow for a month so I'll give him till I get back to decide.

If he pulls out, you have 2nd option.

I'll deff be selling the crew cab when I take on the 23, I don't have the money to do both.

The Porsche speedster project is alive and well.

My old 58 23 window had ribbed bumpers and a later style engine lid. I can't remember which month the later style lid was introduced, but it was cetainly in the 58 model year production. If you get the chassis number that'll confirm everything.

Did you notice the smiley in my post?

I noticed the fact that the DC which you were "never going to sell" a few pages back is now up for sale...lol.

It's obvious you're not into this for the rare-ness factor. Perhaps it's the coolness quotient of the bus, perhaps it's the value. I'm betting on some of the former but more of the latter.

If that makes me a hater, so be it. At least it doesn't make me a name-caller. Laughing

I don't care why you want to do it, I think that it would be great! What a challenge. Make sure that you have your camera handy during the restoration.

jeremyrockjock, i bet you can do it. Get in the cargo area, lay on your back, and kick the crap out of the roof. The rest is easy.

Riiiggght.. Wink I don't know that I would have tried to save that one. Not to say it can't be done. My bus was rough but that is by large more than rough. I am looking forward to seeing it come back to shape though.

I don't have my NEATO book handy but the "eyebrow" decklids started in mid to late 1958. Since it is Chestnut brown it is a pre August bus.

Right. My 23 is August 58 build date. Beige grey/ SWRed.
Mine was probably rustier. but not smashed.
Certainly the bus is doable. Make sure you trust the people doing the work. It's a pity to pay for work you'll have to undo later.
I have a 67 912 Targe that was bent about as bad. (the nice thing, it was in a barn since 1970, after being smashed. ) I paid a guy quite a bit to straighten it. when I went to pick it up, it was about 2" longer diagaonally one way than the other. I prevailed upon the guy to use his equipment and spent about a day in his shop getting it straight.
That was many years ago. But now I'm getting back to work on it and have quite a bit more skill.
A 912 Targa isn't even worth that much money (It should be, but that's life!) It will just be a nice accomplishment for me! It will be a bit of work. but well worth the effort.
Your 23 will too. A rib bumper Euro 23 window RHDrive. Sweet.
try to not do too much cutting and replacing of panels. If in doubt, leave it original. 10 years later, you might be able to do much more with the original parts than you can now.

I believe it was the eminent 20th century philosopher Jackson Browne who said

Unfortunatly I'm in Canada till Friday and then the states from the weekend till the end of March. I'm in the process of making plan on getting the deluxe back to my house at the moment, but it doesn't help when you're halfway accross the globe.
