Does anyone know how far back the grey/white westy flooring used on the early bay was used? I have heard rumors of as early as 1962 but I am not sure. I have sent messages to a few people without a clear answer. Thanks to all who have tried, if anyone knows for sure let me know. Thanks |

I thought for sure you were going to have a pic of a broken jar of marmalade on the floor of your Westy. _________________ Barndoor Mafia

i always thought the new floor was introduced with the so42. i personally dont like the floor, plus mine is totally gone so ill be using a woodgrained flormica that matches the cabinets. i think its pearwood _________________ WANTED:

here's a tighter shot. Would you buy it? What would you pay for it? I am not just going to be offering some lame vinyl tile with this pattern on it, the repop will be exactly identical to this flooring, the pattern, colors, surface graining, even the burlap weave on the back. The only difference will be that it will be thicker. There is a mimimum order for this stuff that will represent a huge investment for me, and I want to make sure that anyone who can use this in their westy can get it. including the split bus crowd. but the response from the community as well as the numbers will determine whether I can actually pull it off. it wont be easy.
again try to ignore the mess. When it gets warmer I will clean this shit up and post another picture if this isnt doing it for you. |

no. the SO-42 flooring samples that I have seen are not an exact match to the early bay, though the colors are similar.

I have the upper one and would love to get my hands on an accurate repro. I would like to see it done in regular vinyl though, not linoleum, and forget the jute backing. Nobody will see that, and newer flooring materials have other methods of reinforcement.
I had given up on an exact repro and was going to use one of the gray patterned linoleums that Forbo produces. They don't match but at least they look old. |

Glad you dropped in, Chris. If you look at the laminate on my fridge/sink combo, that is an exact match to the door I have in mind for you. I will be at the post office tomorrow.
I think the pattern I am going to repop is going to be the later one in my pictures. Given the colors it will look close to the original SO-42 lino from a short distance. Can you for one live with that? How about others? |

Mine is the same as the early bay floors. It was pretty toasted when I got my bus and needed to be removed. Here's a pic of what belongs in mine. YES, I would be interested in buying it... My bus was built in April or May can't remember off the top of my head. So any later ones should take this flooring also. Not sure when Westfalia made the switch over.
I would recommend people give you a deposit to show they're serious about purchasing it. But first you really need to give an idea of the price before you can get people to commit.

Yeah, Ivan, for the moment it does. The engine's been out for a few months and it's been in storage. I dont know what leaked, probably some part I put in there had rusty water in it and it leaked. Come to litchfield and you can see what it looks like cleaned up.
abuspilot, that pattern is again slightly different from the pattern on mine, but the colors are the same. I really cant throw figures out until I get the numbers finalised, but Im not going to gouge anyone. How about this: take a good look at the pattern, ask yourself if you can live with it, realise this is an identical material to what Westfalia used, and throw a figure up there. Let me know what you would pay for enough to do the whole bus, and I can factor that into my numbers. I assure you it will last longer than the original material, it's german, and it beats the shit out of some Home Depot sticky tile or ghetto parquet flooring. It's up to you guys, the bay bus pilots arent going to buy all this stuff, if you want it, I will try to get it for you but you gotta speak up and ask for it. I will offer it for the best price I can. |

I take it that what you are after is as OG as possible. Okay with that, but for my camper I prefer carpeting, specially on them cold camping mornings!
Plus it tends to keep most everything you put on it in place rather than sliding around! _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise. |

yes, this marmo is for the stock nazis, and anyone else that's doing a resto and wants that one piece to the puzzle. My bus is not a concours. I am not a rich man and have not tackled the shell restoration that's going to cost me serious money. But it's functional and complete, and I will be rolling it this summer. |

This is the floor I'm looking for. Has anyone found this stuff yet? I've been lkooking for a few weeks with no luck. I did a forum search and came across this old thread so thought I'd ask.

I'd like some of that too but if it's a repro it better be close or I'm not interested. _________________ Your Vanagon sucks, Stop waving at me.

This is either the second kind shown above, or a third original variation all together. I am pretty sure it is indeed a third kind of flooring fitted by Westfalia:
