I am from Jersey, learned a lot the hard way Smile I agree, and when it comes to protecting home, car, and property, there seems to be two grades of thieves anymore. The hardened criminal, bent on getting in your house, or stealing your car, and the stupid immature, butthead punks that get a spur of the moment flash of fun when they see something they would like, and go for it.

You can seal up every door and window in your house, use a club on the steering and the brake, disconnect every fuse, and let the air out of all your tires, and the professional criminal that wants it, is gonna take it anyway.

OTOH, stuff like the club, removing fuses, kill switches, etc, are perfect for preventing the idiots and the punks from walking away with your stuff on a lark. However, if you do something to prevent starting, I have witnessed pissed off little pukes, that will trash the vehicle in disgust. There is no honor among thieves. When they tried for my daughter's truck, and failed to tear the steering column open to get it started, they destroyed the dash, slit the seats, etc, and basically left a "note" that said, 'next time, make it easier, or else'

Sad state of the world. Any chance it will ever get better?.......

You could get something like a "wheriphone", small enough to hide somewhere in the van, and if it gets stolen you just dial the phone to get the gps coordinates.

there used to be alarm systems that would call you if there was an intrusion... that seems good. I've had 3 cars stolen and it always happens at 2-4AM.

I do plan on an alarm of some kind...wouldn't mind remote locks on my rig.

don't forget wheel locks, 2 of my cars (GTI's) were stolen for rimms Confused

From time to time, I read a story about a car theft/jacking spoiled by having three pedals in the car.

A previous owner of my Westy installed a battery "cutoff" switch. It has a large red plastic key that can be removed and taken with you. This key/switch cuts off the positive side of your battery; no juice.

You can buy these at any speed shop, as they are mostly used on drag cars.

The bad side of this setup is that you loose any "pre-set" radio stations if you installed an aftermarket radio.

Im taking my westy on an extended surfing trip to central america. Im installing removable steel bars into the driver and passenger side doors so that if someone busts the windows in they can neither open the door or crawl through the window. saw sometihng like it from
vwvagabonds.com

may be a little over the top but itll be my whole life in that van and some spots of central america arent thatsafe.

just some food for thought
