The red oval is mine and both the guards and lights are from Hella.
But be aware that the guards are left and right sided, they are not the same.

Thanks Peter,

I was aware of that already, but can you tell me about the amber lights on the rometsch? Are they original or just a common set added to the gaurds? I need to know if they used different foglights on these and which ones are correct. Can you give me a part# of your lights?

Mike

Hi Mike

I dont know if there diffrent sets available but assume that all HELLA
lights that fits would be correct?!

On the outside just over the glass it says: n=23cm/5m.
And on the reflector it says: Nr. 110 zh-9
That is all I can find, but there is also some numbers inside the gurds.

hello,

the red rometsch's lamps are not correct.
it is selfexplaining because this are BOSCH ! lamps on hella bumper guards.

those bosch nipple lamps are very nice but not mixed with hella guards Smile)

i have a set of original hellas for the bumpers left - so if anyone needs them - please email me.

best regards
alex

Hi Mike and Peter,

There where 2 diffrent styles available... for round or oval shaped lights. One set o guards for each type. These where made for the earlier kind of bumper too, used on split bugs also. I have a Hella catalouge from the summer of 1958, where the diffrent kinds are on pictures...

Peter, you know me... the guy with the green/white split bus at the swap meet of Bug Run. =)

What is the difference of the mounts for the round lights or the oval lights???

I own a set of these and can't imagine what would change for round lights or oval lights to mount on the top.

I can tell you that just about any small Hella light will mount on the bumper horns, Marchal fog lights will not.

Hello Tomas
Yes ofcourse I know you Smile
I never seen that oval shaped lights that refer to, any pictures?
The round lights are in 2 versions, most of them with a big bracket on the back for mounting. But it´s possible to change that so that they will work as they were intended on the bumber guards.
I can post pictures later if anyone interested?

OK, now I see. Those oval shaped lights won't mount on the bumper horn brackets. The stem on those sticks straight down.

The round lights you see pictured on the bumper horn brackets have a stem that leaves the light diagonally to the rear of the light, matching up with the bumper horn bracket.

I have a small set of round Hella lights with grille guards that I will be running on my set, they fit great.

Well, I think they would. The oval lights called "128ZN-4" are made to fit the guards called "16/117", and that the "110ZN-9" (dia 110mm) and the "130ZN-9" (dia 130mm) are made to fit the guards called "16/68".

To add to the information Tomas has posted, here are some pics of the 2 styles of mounts from Hella catalogs.

Here are some pics from a 1950's Happich catalog which has one style of mount, but it is for both style lamps.

This is from a 1953 Happich catalog.
Beware, not all these mounts are for a VW. Sometimes people have sold DKW versions as VW.
