Hmm I have always wondered what a lifted van looks like with that bumper and air dam set up on it.

Now I know.

Mines not lifted. It's a regular Syncro 16 on 225/70R16. Just a low angle from the camera makes it look like it's lifted.

Those Syncro 16's are pretty rare, right? I saw BenT's Syncro 16 a few years ago. He pointed out all the differences.

What is the R&P in your van?

BTW, your 16 looks higher than my Syncro 14 before I lifted it

R&P is 5.83. Tires are 29.3", a little oversize, but acceleration is still good.
The drawback to the 16" is higher transaxle temps pushing the 16" wheel and tires.

Oh. Well the Syncros are taller than the 2wds and I am actually running the same size tire so fair enough comparison for me.

Yeah my van feels heavy now with the 31's and the WBX. I did drive it up to Northern Ca a couple of months ago. It seemed OK, but a lot of 3rd gear use.

I'm hoping my planed Subaru H6 will work out with the 4.86

With the 4.86 & 31" tires I think you're stressing the gearbix no matter the engine.
Have you got a temp gauge on the gearbox? I used computer thermal epoxy and epoxied the temp probe as close to the 4th gear bearing. That was maybe 2yrs. ago and the thermal paste is still holding the temp probe in place.

This is what I used originally and still works:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06XC6T8PX?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00CWA3WEC?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0009IQ1BU?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

The higher R&P easily available here in the States is the 5.43 ratio for rear and front diff.
These tire/gear ratios are no friend to the wallet!

No, but I should add one. Do you have it installed internally?

The transmission currently in my van is a non-locker. I have a matching set of front and rear lockers that I plan on rebuilding. I just want to see how the 4.86 behaves once I get the Subaru in. I'm thinking about putting a 6.17 R&P in my lockers.

1) That's a good looking van. I think the kids say "Nice stance".
2) Smoked and amber turn signal, yellow and clear fog lights (?)

Was that intentional or just a shortage of matching parts?

I was looking for a yellow fog light to fit the '"Project Z" fairings and was halfway through the change! 😁

Northbound on the 5 in San Diego County - a highway worked stopped in the #1 lane and backed up to park on the median. Chain reaction braking, slightly wet pavement and the usual Vanagon stopping distance got me.

You can just see the outline of the spare tire on the back of the Honda CRV that I 'met'.

Didn't look too bad. No leaks and the AC still worked. Didn't even break a headlamp or the lower grille. Drove another 500 miles to get home.

Once they started to open it up there was considerable tweaking behind the panels and into the dash area. Oh my:

Once again, this vehicle teaches me a lesson in patience.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but in answer to tjet's question this is where I attached the thermocouple on the outside of the gearbox housing nearest to the 4th gear. There is an indent in the housing where I placed the thermocouple and sealed it into place with a computer cpu thermal past, "Arctic Alumina Thermal Adhesive" ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009IQ1BU/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 )
Some pics to show the location.

Indented spot to the right of the gold fitting.

The tip of the thermal sensor has to be touching the metal of the housing when you goop the thermal epoxy on top. This was done in 2017 and it is still there. I cleaned the metal housing with brake cleaner which does not leave a residue so the epoxy adheres better.
