Make sure you use a rim that has a bead lock on it, most 5 lug beetle rims don't. I had mine done at Stockton Wheel.

Don't forget, you will need one for a spare.

what rim did you use for a doner??

I had all 5.5" EMPI rims to start with and cut the outer rims off with a grinder being careful not to damage the centers.
Then I found some 4.5" 4 lug beetle rims and cut the centers out being careful not to damage the outer rim.

Sent all that to Stockton Wheel and they chromed the inners and outers and set the offset to stock VW.
It costs extra if you have them do all the grinding, but to chrome, set the offset and weld the wheels up it was about $200 a wheel.

I love grinding things.
Cutting, welding and fabricating things from metal is good for stress relief.

Here is a pic of my OG Sprintstars I just restored. I used "Reflex Silver" (paint number DBC300840 H) for the silver. This color is used on the new VW's and matched very well with the og paint that was on the wheels. Its a 2 stage paint so I sprayed the silver first, then masked off the insets and sprayed the black, then cleared the whole face of the wheel. Hope this helps.

I have a set of deeps also, can I just remove the centers and put them in the barrel of a stock wide 5 smoothie rim?

Use an aftermarket Mangels "chromie" instead and you'll have a damn close to OG wheel lip too.

This is my HPC coated version as I was looking for an alternative to chrome or paint, 1 pair is 15x5.5 but I also noticed that the other pair is stamped 5x5.5 but actually measures at only 5 wide. May have been re-rimmed most likely and the center appears smaller, however they are all 15 inch. These have been for sale here for quite some time... Laughing

Still nobody who has the correct colour codes for sprinstars??

Isn't there anyone who has NOS ones to compaire colours??

I would also be helped out.

I also think the colours would be the same for sprinstars as for South African ones.

Thanks,

Kurt.

I am using VW L91 silver. This is really close to the original gray on 4 lug empi sprintstars. But I don’t no for the black color. Does it has to be glossy black or not?
I have seen an original empi and the black was matte, like washed out.
What is the original black? Gloss or not ?
