But thanks. |
This is the exact one I used.

I also filled the existing holes in the carrier with JB Weld in hope that'd it would help prevent the bit from walking as the depth increased. I don't know if it did, but did help make more of a mess. The hole center did migrate a little towards the opening the further down I went, but its nothing that can't be cleaned up with a file. In my case, didn't need to do that.
The reason I went with that one is because my drill press arbor only opens up to 1/2". 5/8th" wouldn't fit. |

BTW, my van is a Syncro. Your mileage may vary with 2wd versions. |

Don't be mad at me for answering your question. I was trying to help you. You asked what it's called and I answered that. And yes, that will find you one on Amazon. Check how many results you get when you search end mill. _________________ '87 Syncro

Warning...if you're following these (http://www.syncro.ca/tech/audibrakes.htm) instructions, be careful ordering parts from RockAuto. Not all Audi V8/5000/S4 parts are the same. And some of RA's part numbers are screwed up. Look at the pictures and make sure you're getting ONE LEFT and ONE RIGHT caliper... lol
When ordering brake rotors, make sure the ones you get are 276mm diameter and have a overall height of 1.820" or ~46mm. The other ones are too tall. The 46mm rotors will fit with a 8-9mm spacer on the caliper.
Anyways. I ordered my parts a long time ago, and just recently realized that they shipped me two of the same caliper. Too late to return it. Anyone want to buy it from me? Its this:
CARDONE 19988 {#447615124} Remanufactured Info One of our most popular parts
Front Right; with Dual Piston Caliper; with Girling Original Caliper; with Metal Piston
Which is $65. Let me know via PM, I'll discount it a little and you'll help a brother out.
ooOOOoooo... buy my caliper and I'll include my 5% off discount code I have that expires on the 10th. |

Can anybody tell me what the Vanagon caliper carrier centre to centre measurement is? I'd like to be able to open up the Audi carriers without getting under the van beforehand.
Thanks! _________________ '84 Vanagon GL 1.9 WBX

inside to inside : 72.5mm
outside to outside: 105.4mm
Had to drill out the screws holding on what was left of the dust covers....
Did some grinding on the caliper hanger to make it easier to machine and clear the upright.

Anyone know where I can get an adapter to fit my G60s on 312 rotors? I’d like something stronger than my 288s.
Thanks |

Do you have 2wd or a Syncro? (I think you have a Syncro.)
Just wondering why the 288mm is not good for you?
I have the S.A. 276mm ventilated disc, but from my readings on it they will not have clearance on the Syncro 16"
I just did a short stop this morning with the oem 277mm size solid disc and I did not have a problem. Surprised me as it was a short distance to stop.
I have the S.A. 276mm ventilated disc, but from my readings on it they will not have clearance on the Syncro 16" upright.
I have a set of Sharon 300mm discs to see how they fit.
I will probably be going to the Mercedes ML320 303mm ventilated disc.
I also have an Epytec 312mm adapter kit and used 312mm discs which are just rusty without any visible wear on the brake surface from a salvage yard.
The Epytec 312mm adapter kit will change the ET to 25
I do not really want to go to the 312mm disc, but will be looking at this this coming weekend depending on if the G60 caliper carriers are back from the machine shop.
So the kit may be for sale. _________________ This free advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

thanks steve. I do have a syncro westy. Ive got the small car setup up front and the burley setup in the back with a larger brake booster. Stops are good but emergency braking not so great.
Was hoping for just a little more power, and im pretty sure the 312's will fit under my CLK's.
Id love to buy the adapters from you (and the rotors) if youre not needing them anymore!
Out of curiosity is the ET you mentioned much different from the small car ET?
thanks

I do not have any experience with the Small Car kit to know how they shimmed it to center the caliper on the disc or spacer required for the wheel to fit without touching the caliper.
Have you got 16" CLK's? _________________ This free advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

Thinking about what your saying here about the emergency braking.
The obvious question to ask is if all the air came out of the caliper when bleeding it if the air vent is on the bottom end of the caliper?
When I do mine I might just put a piece of wood in place of the disc and hang it upside down off the coil spring so the air vent is pointing up just to make sure all the air is out.
I don't really hear of anyone having had a problem bleeding it, but knowing me I'll just feel better knowing there is no reason I might have had any air left in it.
I'm just going from memory here - the original master cylinder diameter i think is around 23.4mm for the original brake caliper and rotor installed. I don't think that is going to make too much difference as your pedal effort is what is compressing the brake fluid. I am not sure or at least i do not remember reading about anyone installing a larger diameter master cylinder to give more increased pressure.
The next thing that will make a difference is the brake booster that the master cylinder is mounted to.
The original from memory is 9.5" dia.
People have changed this to a 10" diameter booster from BMW to increase the (or decrease the vacuum pressure since it is a negative number) and it does.
The thing is we're changing a working factory designed brake to different parameters so it is best to do every bit of research on your parts before changing the system.
I haven't started swapping parts yet so I'm due a little bit more reading on it.
I think it was Christopher from T3 who might have mentioned the master cylinder diameter, but do not remember if there was a larger diameter that would fit. Maybe shoot him an email and ask him about it.
There are 30+ pages of brake swapping info here and it all seems to be working in just swapping the caliper and disc size, but little things to consider. _________________ This free advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

thanks steve-
my bleeders are up top and I use a power bleeder, so no air left.
I already installed the bigger booster.
a larger master cylinder will give you a stiffer pedal, but no different braking force overall.
power is just not as good as id like, that's all |
