I have a 1982 air-cooled vanagon that used to start right up but it sat for a year or so. I recently went to start it, but it was difficult to start until i gave it a pump of gas from the pedal. After its warmed up, it is extremely difficult to start, or won't start at all. Has anyone experienced similar problems? |

Might be best to just drain your tank at this point as ethanol laced fuel goes bad if allowed to sit and will gum up your injectors and valve stem. You may well have a pretty good coat of ethanol related gum in the tank that will continually dissolve back into the fuel and keep gumming up your injectors for tens of thousands of miles. You will either have to live with it letting the FI cleaner slowly clean the tank, have your tank professionally cleaned, or get a new tank.
Adding FI cleaner like Techron "Ethanol" to your tank with every fill up should help some, and I have found that adding 1/2 quart of cheap synthetic oil (read Walmart brand) to the fuel tank at every fill up will help keep the injectors from sticking closed. |
