In todays market would this be considered a deal?
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2538213

There are a lot of lesser buses that have sold for more. And you’d have a hard time buying a junk Barndoor for the prices they command and get it to this point for less. I’m trying to hold my composure and stay away from it myself but it sure is tempting.

No pictures of the bottom and they're asking 95K? That's crazy. If I were looking at that I'd want a hundred pics underneath and with the mat and seat removed. If you're interested, fly there and see it in person.

"All rust dealt with" is a really scary phrase. Rust is easy to "smack and pack", difficult to repair properly. If it were really nice underneath they would have posted a bunch of pics showing so.

If you’re looking for a bus of this magnitude you’ll probably go to the effort and inquiring for those photos and I’m sure he will be glad to get you the photos. I’ve seen this bus and even rode in it, it’s everything you could hope and more.

It’s a one off , so it’s more like what will it take for the owner to release it.

Wasn't there a thread on this NEUE bus several years ago? I searched and couldn't find anything. He's selling it for his dad, I hope he is oK.

Yes that's it RockStock, good eye on that thread. The NEUE Barndoor has come a long way and keeps a lot of patina. Hope it gets into good hands Cool

Did anyone else see the ad for a 1961 23 window walk through bus posted for sale in Vallejo, CA this morning? I’m not sure if it was real or not, but if it was someone got a bargain. It was listed for $25,000 and looked complete.

That was certainly a scam. That bus was for sale in the upper midwest a few years back for around $75k, and it sold. I should have bought it then, but even these days, that is big money for a project car. It had faint logos from a drug store I think.

Correct, scam ad.

I searched the photos and found the old ad on one of those "ad aggregator" sites for $70K.

It's also been used as a scam ad a bunch of times before on various sites, here and on craigslist, probably others too

Someone said the name used was Allen so probably this guy

I want to share this and I guess this is the best thread to do so. I was going through old boxes today and found some old Neato & LiMBO paper newsletters from the early & mid 90's. This was dated March/April, 1994. I looked through the classifieds and knew you all would appreciate it as well.

Those were the days. Literally every single junkyard had a split bus in it. The only thing that was in short supply was money to buy all the buses. I think I made about $7/hr back then. It would take like half a years wages to buy a BD deluxe....

Same here, Lind! I believe I was making $7.50 at the time and $5k for the Barndoor Deluxe might as well have been $50k then.

Is this the '67 Westy with 49k miles that was offered in the above ad for trade by Todd in Ohio for a pre 62 Westy?

Also Charlie's old smooth gate is for sale in this ad. Back when no one was really into Barndoors. Too bad it went to someone who tore it apart 20 years ago and its still in pieces to this day.

I have an old NADA from October of '65, which is what car dealers used for determining the value of a car for sale or trade-in. A friend of mine has a '59 panel bus which had a retail value of $145 and a wholesale value of $65. A 21 window had a retail of $750! Note the huge price difference between panels/pickups and busses.
