Keep your friends close, but keep the enemy closer.
Shawn...what you did was wrong man. Not about the way the deal went down or who got the shifter. It does not matter who got the part. It is your part after all. Sell it to whoever you want.
My point is.... if you are going to lie, do it properly.
Next time..just say "Sorry, but i changed my mind. NOT FOR SALE ANYMORE." BYE! Then sell it to the next guy.
YOur problem is that you are just too honest. You do not have to explain shit to the fellow. Don't try to be a nice guy to everyone or make friends with everyone. You won't be able to. Most of the people here are jerks anyway.
Money talks, bullshit walks...as the saying goes. "The ends justify the means. And what is moral and not is beside the point." You get the drift...
I see an asshole coming, the price gets higher everytime he gets closer.
To my friends, I give it away. Just keep a few friends since you cannot be friends with everybody anyway.
Don't worry. Life goes on. |

This is still a gutless tactic.

How can a deceitful person be honest? That's a new one on me. It's also interesting how you say everyone on here is a jerk. That would lead us to believe you have few, if any, "friends". Your reputation as a machinist has been besmirched by your own 'bait and switch' tactics on pricing and your quality of work, or rather the lack thereof. _________________ West Virginia State Board of Education v. Did you mean to send this as a PM to Shawn? You should have, because now you've really opened my eyes to whether or not I would consider you to do the machining on the engine I'm planning to build this year. |

If you have considered me to do machining on your engine, fine..I appreciate it.
If you have not, fine too. I am not going to hold that against you. It is your money. Give it to whoever.
If you send me parts to get machined for the price, that has nothing to do with my moral conviction, does it? Or which church I go to?
People here have their own clicks and fine with me too. They gather a bunch of their friends and boycott. To me is really funny.
If you know that it can be done better for the same price, yet you do not because a friend of yours has had a bad experience with the said person, you could be missing out.
The biggest problem is people want so much done for the same money the "other" machine shops charge. Why should I labor more for the same money? The answer is simple: Just send your money elsewhere and get the quality your money commands. People think they have found their own personal machine shop by just saying nice things to me. Buddy this and buddy that.
I am here for me and no one else's. Nobody helped me drive 2000 miles to get stuff and load/unload. I enjoy fully the fruits of my labor and I will be damned if someone can just come in and give me a couple of $$ and I am supposed to do whatever? Don't think so.
I have enough friends across statelines I do work for. My enemies..I have never accepted any work.
Peace. |

See what I mean, all you other "JERKS" on the samba?. If anything, the SAMBA needs more people to post about un-ethical sellers and how they work. What this site doesn't need is jacker-backers who help convince the un-ethical seller, who is being called on poor handling of a transaction, that he or she has done "the right thing".
I can't and dont know "ALMOST EVERYONE" on this site. I do know that most are NOT jerks (at least not ALL the time ). I CAN say that I now know of at least TWO that are confirmed jerks. Feel free to add me to your "enemy" ( ) list. |

Nick, you have to make up your mind. Are you a business or is this just a hobby. I've read many of your post where you state that this is just a hobby. If so, then don't get upset when people want more for less, that's the nature of the game. Danm, I've helped many a person and was never paid enjoying this hobby.
If your a true buisiness, then set a firm price, do a good job and they will come. Stop whining about how other shops get paid big bucks and you don't. Instead of whining, you should be figuring out how you can be better than the other shop, by your workmanship, how you treat your customers, new and better products, etc. Telling Shawn he should have lied, kinda makes me wonder how you would run a business, if that is what you have or is it still just a hobby, Nick ???
Nick, I've had a contracting buisiness for a number of years and in the begining I whined about how much more Sears got for window installations or company X got for a kitchen install. I've learned whining didn't get me anywhere. I learned to give a better product at a good price, to treat a customer, or PONTENTIAL customers with respect and to be HONEST was the key.
Getting back to the original post, I believe once a deal is made...it's a done deal. I've personally had this happen to me on a few times already and it gets old.
Sorry for the hijack and long post.

Oh..not whining. Just saying. People will want to rip you a new one everytime. You just watch out for the assholes.
Here is a familiar scene. One wants something done and in the middle of machining he changes direction...say an upgrade or a change in size/displacement. This is really a double job for me...the set up and all. Do you charge half for the upgrade or charge for a full job? It is a repeat job. This is where they can squeeze more work for no money at all. Now if you are nice enough, you say fine.
This is a time when a deal is not a deal anymore. The "customer" can undo this, and most shops will allow changes. It is annoying. I will put up with it most of the time to not upset things and have one happy customer, but man the things you have to do. For what? To make him happy?
"The customer is always right" If you know he or she is building something that is going to blow up in his face, do you let him? OR do you say, he is big enough to make his decision?
One thing is sure. YOu will never please everyone. There will always be one jerk. |

In the contracting business, we would use a change order. All changes to made made must be paid in advance, before continuing. Customers will change thier minds in any business venture. It's something you will have to cope and deal with, or go work for someone else A good business will know how to deal with it

WOW! Talk about karma...I think all of you are bringing bad karma upon yourselves the way you are putting such zest and zeal in to running another person down! Are you all trying to assert that you are perfect angels, and better yet- that you have never made a mistake? Also- it seems you all have a problem with accepting facts and then moving on. I think you should all get over it, as I am sure you've faced tougher situations in life. And lets remember, Mr. Navy- people are dying in Iraq...I'm a lot unhappier about that than you not getting your shifter and what not.
My names April...and you really do get what you give...so, good luck with that. |

This isn't about everybody being perfect angels, people dying in Iraq, all the king's horses, or all the tea in China, or what makes us less or more unhappy than what this genius has pulled.
This is about an unethical seller who deserves to be shunned because he refuses to keep his word. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Sellers that advertise items then try to blame the buyer because they didn't do their own research and find out what something may or may not be worth before offering it for sale are stupid and should keep their genomes out of the gene pool.
Don't blame the buyer for trying to do what the seller wanted. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

When you walk into a bestbuy, see a TV listed for one prce and go to buy it, wouldn't it be pretty shitty if someone walked up to the help desk and said, "I'll give you $20 more for it!" and BestBuy took it from you?
Same thing; shouldn't happen, it's unethical.
The first buyer wasn't asking to pay an unfair price, he was asking this guy to take a monetary denomination of agreeable amounts for both parties in exchange for a material only usable to the buyer... The seller trusts the buyer to send the cash; shouldn't the buyer expect that he gets his part? _________________ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

First of all, suck it. Second of all, get a fucking clue as to the real issue at hand. Thirdly, learn some grammatical and spelling skills. |
