I had a '89 4runner with 280K miles on it, those 22re are bullet proof. However for all the engine swap research I have never seen one of these used. It is quite a tall inline four so it would be angled in there and maybe still not clear the engine lid, not to mention it is obviously water cooled. Good luck. Wink

I am helping a friend convert a 4x4 Toyota pickup from a 22re to a 2l-te diesel so i am in converting mode.

I always wanted to convert an air cooled to a water cooled just for shi%s and giggles. I also would like to elevate the engine bay so when my seat folds I can sleep there.

Any help on the tranny fitting would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Matthew
