Scored a nice 1/67 NOS wheel. NOS dealer replacement with stock tag. Thought you guys would get a kick out of it. Not keeping this one as I'm more of a baywindow guy and cherish the 2/68 15" that I have. Very Happy

Cool and a nice reference to show that the hubcap clips were installed and painted black too.

What came on a bus and what is dealer replacement are two different things and sometimes confused by many..

So for now cool reference for dealer replacement.

I got a set of dealer replacement, never mounted 15 inch rims dated 66 years ago for cheap at the Beaver Springs show. Sold them with the bus, the next owner kept them when he re sold the bus as he knew the bus was to be lowered. Damn I wish I kept them, they were soooo clean and straight. They looked exactly like your photos, with that hard black baked on paint.

Here is a curve ball. All pre 73 VW things came with bus 15 inch wheels. Most of those were swing axles.Do pre 64 bus 15 inch wheels fit 73 and 74 things front and rear? Is the offset correct?

I don't think 15" bus wheels have ever had clearance issues on either style of type 1 standard front suspension.

15" bus rims have been used on IRS'ed lowered buses for years with no issues. I can't imagine it would be a problem on a thing.

True but in this case I don't believe there is a difference.
I can't say the clips were painted black on original wheels but I don't see why not since I know for a fact the wheels had the clips installed before paint and the entire wheel was painted black before the face was painted Silver White.

Here's an original paint wheel with the black coming through the white face:

More hot wheel action, here's my set of dealer replacement wheels:

Well its not the clips is what I'm refering to. It's the whole rim itself being that its all black that would make it a dealer replacement part that makes the difference. School me if I'm wrong. Be gentle tho Laughing

Got it, I misunderstood what you were saying and went crazy, haha.

Yes, I agree, if the whole wheel is black, it's probably a dealer replacement wheel that no one ever painted.
I don't know if any Bus ever came with wheels that were black on the front?
It's very possible there is some special model or special paint scheme that did though...

Here are some wheels I powder coated in my free time. A lot of work redoing a complete set of wheels. All new German clips. The hubcaps are German raw metal. Also powder coated black, THEN painted LICHT GRAU.

I am having a hard time wanting to paint these wheels as they look pretty cool black.

Your VIN # is mid-November, 1957 so 9/57 or 10/57 are a good guess.

If you have any wheels at all that might be original, check them to see what you already have as this can be a good indicator.

I'll go a different route on this thread. I'm not looking for any specific date, but would like to have a set of crowsfoot 'style' wheels for my bus. Don't care if they have the crowsfoot stamp or not, I just like the big slots. Does anybody have a set they're not going to use?

I was told by somebody I think knows what he is talking about that I did my '56 Kombi correctly for this color scheme, including the black rims....

If my 57 kombi weren't OG paint, I would consider making a copycat of this bus. Absolutely fantastic!
