That battery looks nice.
Are you sure it is from the 40's? The bus bars and vent caps look like new manufacture. The 40's era batteries I have seen from Varta have their name / logo stamped into the bars and molded into the caps. |

The Varta Logo was installed on to it by me. It came without any manfacturers name on it anyplace. I like the Varta Logo, so I went with that. _________________ Feb 1944 KdF Type 82e.

Yes, it is a tar top. I bought it in Germany from an outfit that still makes the old style batteries. I think yours is from the same company. |

The guy I got it from is a friend and he had it for over 10 years. I bought it from him 4 or 5 years ago. So I know it's about 15 years old. He said late 40's. _________________ Feb 1944 KdF Type 82e.

Mr...Anchovy-
Regarding:
Your quote,
"...Yes, it is a tar top. I bought it in Germany from an outfit that still makes the old style batteries. I think yours is from the same company...."
That has to be the same repop one made in Germany, that Wolfsburg West sells (sold). I just called recently, because I remembered they showed it on their website, and they no longer get them. But he did tell me they get it in Germany.
I know they only likely dropped it because not enough people knew they had them, didn't sell many.
But could you tell me the German company's name?
For example I got my interior from Himmel Service, so I look all over for the closest thing I can get...seems like I end up shipping everything good from Germany!
Worth the trouble to me, since no one in the USA makes one close, that you can just ad the (your) repop logos to and be done.
I'd buy a couple. |

Has anyone ever seen one of these come up for sale? |
I purchased one of these on ebay a few years back, it was used & cracked with no caps. It could not be restored so I gutted it out, glued it, painted it. Currently it sits on a shelf. Thinking of putting a dry cell 6v inside it for display it in my zwitter at a show. _________________ Bill |

I don't recall the name but I believe they are near Berlin and I seem to recall that they have a bull as the company logo. In any case I tracked them down and found that the price from dealers on ebay Germany were similar. The sellers on ebay were more responsive as well. I had them provide the yellow vent caps I wanted instead of the stock blue ones.
Do a search for "6V 84Ah" on ebay Germany and you will run into some sellers. The guy I got mine from does not seem to be selling any longer. |
