Some pics from a recent 2300 mile trip through the Sierra Nevadas in California with brief excursions into Oregon and Nevada.
Camped at the Alabama Hills above Lone Pine, CA. The big peak in the foreground is Lone Pine Peak at 12,949 ft. Mt. Whitney is the more rounded rightmost of the three pinnacles in the far background on the right. It's the highest point in the lower 48 at 14,505 ft.
A few nights later above Bishop, CA at the Buttermilk Boulders with fresh snow on the peaks. Lows were in the 20's and highs in the 60's. Good fall weather.
Mono Lake near Lee Vining. It has no outlet so it is a brine lake.
Emerald Bay at Lake Tahoe. A beautiful overlook.
Brokeoff Mountain at Lassen Volcanic National Park. The remains of an exploded volcano.
Mount Lassen (10,463 ft). It's technically still active.
Petroglyph Point at Lava Beds National Monument. A real gem of a monument with great lava tube caves. Petroglyph Point is the largest collection of petroglyphs in the country and about 2-6000 years old. Too far away to see in this photo though.
Laufman Campground near Reno, NV but actually in CA. A really nice little site.
A final stop in Joshua Tree National Park. Sunset on the Echo Rocks from Hidden Valley Campground.

Hello'
kmsd, nice 71 westy you have there....
I'm glad you like my neck of the woods. You've got to love the Eastern Sierra for it's natural scenery. |

We've camped here a dozen times since the place opened, and it's one of my favorites. Permit camping, 10K acres of wilderness with only 3 campsites, and it's only an hour or so from home. Lots of wildlife, beautiful river, miles of hiking and biking. Nice because the access road is too narrow for RVs and trailers.
