What is the best engine for economy and long life? Looking for 30+ MPG. Anyone ever destroked a 1600 with a 64 mm crank? Is 1200 good for economy. I am not interested in power. Going in a 61 body on a IRS pan. |

1600 Single Port would be great for economy and reliability. And very easy to get parts for. |

Get a late model SSC (Single Side Cover) tranny. It will have the 3.875 r/p for good milage. Also a slightly larger tire will help. _________________ Glenn

economically, the most economic way would be to not rebuild a motor, and just get a running engine or keep your current 1600 if you have one and use the extra grand or so you were going to spend on a rebuild on gas.
