Anyone ever get a weird wawawawa sound sometimes that sounds like it is coming from the speedometer? I get it about 1/2 the time I drive around. I pulled the speedo cable and dripped some lube down there and it seemed to help but it has recently come back.

This winter mine started squeeling pretty loudly when it's cold outside. I thought is was my cable but if I pull over and disconnect the cable from the speedo it stops. The cable is still spinning in it's housing when I do this so it leads me to believe that it's something in the speedometer itself. I've got another speedo that I'm going to try to swap out and see if that helps. Past experience tells me that 9 times out of 10 it's the cable but if it turns out to be the speedo itself, I'm going to have to send mine off to get it cleaned and lubricated (I want to keep as close to original mileage as possible showing on the odometer). I'll try a place called Palo Alto Speedometer for service. I've sent my BMW speedos to them before and I think they service all kinds.

YUP! My 88 Carat sent out the waaaawaaa waaaa. Remove the top, take the
cable off from the back of the cluster...

Get some GOOD lubricant with a plastic hose that will direct it down towards and inside the cable housing...fill liberally.
