That so23 looks like one i saw ten years ago in a yard in Maine the wood inside was all rotted. The only parts i got out of it where the hooks for the rear net and maybe a coat hook or two and a bunch of screws. There was a porcupine living in it.

Thanks hoping it'll clean up reasonably well once all the repaint are removed.

Hello,
I live in Luxembourg and i own a 1965 splitty since 2017. I am currently restauring it.
I bought it in Netherlands in 2017 in a VW shop. The owner of the shop imported the bus in 2016.

On the samba site i found the previous owner (the last owner on US-territory. He told me he bought it in Philadelphia (Fairhill).
Here are some pics from when he bought it in Philadelphia.

Then i got a photo taken 2014. That must be the place where the bus sat for some decades! But i could't find out where that is! It seems like a junkyard? In Philadelphia? In the background you can see a large sign with "The Inquirer" on it. Perhaps someone knows this place?

I would so much like to retrace as much as possible the history of that bus...

So if someone recognizes that junk yard or that bus...

Thanks

So Ive been working on this ol girl for awhile and finally secured the deal. Been sitting since 79 in the same spot, definitely has rust and should be a good challenge to make it a driver again. Extraction pictures to come next weekend.

Total time capsule. I bet the mobile home's last occupants left there home the right around the same time that the license plates on that bus expired,1978.

So I went and pulled the 65 out today, think goodness my buddy let me use his backhoe. Hooked a chain underneath and pulled it from its resting spot. The frame is good but I does have some rust issues. Its a March 1st of 65, Washington DC port of entry.

East Coast rust is a bitch. Hard to find a good solid bus nowadays.

The frame is good and most of the cargo floor looks good, will need typical rockers, front floor, outriggers and engine compartment metal. No seats unfortunately, all pop out latches are there and one keys fits all locks and ignition. IDK maybe a good rat ride project, I got get further into it.
Thats an early Case dozer there, I worked for a Case dealer for 16 years.
