I like the attention to detail on the repaint. They even got the turn signal switch housing, the striker plate and the door seals.

I was impressed that they didn’t paint the speedometer.

80s colour coordination! Great find. It looks very straight 😊 Is your friend planning on uncovering the logos? I'd love to see that 😊

The 61 abandoned mango.
After a tip from a friend late on Sunday we went this afternoon to the Bus find in the middle of the Rhineland Palatinate.
GPS leads us to the wine-growing area in a wood off the beaten track.
It is said to have been sittin there for 40 years, looted and destroyed but at least it is a mango.
The FIN points to the beginning / middle of 1961.
Axles, transmission, engine and bumpers are still installed.
We have decided to let him rest....

Great pictures and good decision. Reminds me of those pictures of the Titanic at the bottom of the ocean.

I'd still haul out if it were me. I spy a rear bumper, round regulator and a trans that might be useable. Maybe a bulkhead? All in all its amazing what can be salvaged from a bus that looks that bad.

I wanted to share this story because it was very exciting for me...
When I was going to looking for the Bus I contacted the owner first (its was sitting in wineyards of private proberty) and was not willing to sell it or even not to rescue...only pictures for a good story.
This was now about 4 weeks ago, and i heard last week that the bus is rescued and sold to a collector from spain, for 1000euro

it is also the difference between having a VIN to weld your repair panels to, or not.... just saying

great to hear it was saved!
Of course it would have been cool sitting as is, but sooner or later somebody would have it crushed.
Somebody paying and retrieving means that at least some parts are getting saved if not most of the bus. That is good news imho !

I picked up this '65 panel camper recently. It looked like a big white ghost when i pulled up to it.
