I feel like I remember this being a tribute build and not original. Correct me if I'm wrong but that sticks out. It seems like it has been for sale a few times and its status as a tribute build has never been mentioned. Rare* _________________ Oil Capital Air Cooled

Picked up this 1964 Double Cab yesterday. I'd been looking for 5 years for something local.
Previous two owners were Samba Members and did the legwork of finding and marketing it.
Ended up with a 1963 Single Cab in the mean time that came with a circa 1992 title for this DC as they shared
previous owners in the '80s through the '90s
Probably parked in the '80s in Fairbanks, Alaska - later went and sat in Big Delta, Alaska around 2000
Recovered by noted Alaskan bus finder in 2019 from Estate of that owner
Searchlight is interesting
Fried Eggs and Bullets
Some sort of reflective yellow tape pattern under brushed on layer of paint. #6? Were there more?
Aero-Papyrus seat covers in front?
Not Aero-Papyrus
Fuel tank access port in load bed
Odometer still works
The digits - don't mean to dis L87 but makes for a plain unit

Musta been a lot of them in Alaska considering the population. In early days of my internet access I found a 1967 in Alaska that had some moderate A pillar damage, but was beautiful other wise. I think $700. I dreamed I could fly in with hand tools (and a 4 ton Portapower) make it drive home. 3500 miles?
Can't get them all... _________________ Al Brase

As rough as the truck is, your lucky it came w/ the rear seat & pedestal !
I agree w/ paint code assessment of the L 87, I wish mine Sc was any other stock color... _________________ Tom

that quoted picture says a LOT in one picture: 1. Small window 1965 or earlier? 2.Seat pedestal. 3.BOTH seat spring assemblies. 4.Rear floor mat. 5. Towing lite harness out the back- easy, cheap way to recover your new baby!
wrt L87: Love the one you're with. I guess If you found a time machine and put yourself in the VW Dealer showroom in 1964 with a pocketfull of money and the only model 265 they had was Pearlwhite, would you be saying "never mind" or "let's sign the papers'?
The view from the driver's seat is almost the same, whatever the color or shinieness. Love the one you're with. _________________ Al Brase

Follow up on the Alaskan 64 DC - Door Handle Quirk?
DC was built close to Christmas 1963 and appears to have original pushbutton handles, doors, B pillars and latches. Seems VIN is about 554 units before usual stated parts number cut of 1222026. Makes L 87 OK in my book.
StreetView grab that would appear to indicate this bus in natural habitat circa 2011. Explains why no bullet holes on driver's side. Looks to have "Camper Special" mirrors at the time. I don't know what happened to the other two.

Other pictures in the advert show it on jacks at each corner. I think they are built-in levelling jacks. I guess some of the pictures were to show off that feature. _________________ Andy

The one in soonices' original post that I quoted. There are a bunch of pictures.
Reading the ad text it also says 'hydraulics to lift van 12“ off the ground'. _________________ Andy

Found at an indoor flea market. I don’t know much about split window buses. What is it? Anything worth getting and fixing up?
