Interesting... 524512 isn't in the paint listing yet.
It would be good to try to figure out what color(s) it was originally and whether solid or 2-tone. _________________ How to Post Photos

Is it dove blue? I have seen a few dove blue deluxes. It is funny that so many special paint single tone buses get two toned. I guess that makes up for all the two tone buses that get repainted single tone. |
It appears to possibly have been 2 tone originally but the lower section was repainted a different shade. Top, inside and bumpers look more like a Robin's egg color, nothing like Dove Blue. |
Wow, That is cool. I have never seen a VW factory special paint bus that was two tone. (except Westfalias painted at VW or Westfalia). Also, most special paint buses are just a color that was not normally on that model. Great find. I wish we could know why and how they ordered that paint. I have yet to see any internal VW dealership literature about ordering special paint (other than references for two toned Westfalias in microbus colors, which were very common.) _________________ .

Nice Westy, most unusual repaint! Looks to be Velvet green originally which is a great colour. What are your plans for the repaint and matching seat covers?
Cheers. Dave |

Sorry to post so many pics here. We can move them to a different thread if needed. It seems like the lower half darker blue (maybe Dove Blue?) was painted first then everything else was painted in the light blue. Lower half got another coat darker at some point in it's life and the bumpers got re-sprayed white. The white paint on bumpers comes right of with some brake cleaner to reveal the original light blue color. 2 original wheels look like a color match for the original darker blue. If anyone has any theories of how this could have come to exist, I'd love to hear them! |

That looks factory or at least dealer done with the two tone being behind the door panels and all. That's very interesting. _________________ All he needed was a wheel in his hand and four on the road.

Nice score on that unusual blue combi. I love the double cab too, although it needs quite some work. At least you have 1 bumper! Looks like there is some grey paint (L345 ?) coming through on the roof and some other places too. |

The title was dated 1972 and the address was Boulder. It definitely fit the scene in Boulder for that time. |

For sure Boulder plates issued in the late 70's. Colorado went 3 letter-3 number by 1980. I think they used to start MA-XXXX and then MB-XXXX as new registrations were requested. Having grown up there at the time I have a vague memory of that Bus at the campus.

Awesome find. The paint reminds me of this one that was for sale in Europe sometime in the last couple years. Such odd paint schemes, but I love them.

This has GOT to be in the fore or background of some photos taken back in its heyday. We have a "History of Boise" FB group here that helps with such matters. If such a group is active in Boulder- I almost guarantee you'll get some feedback on such a unique rig. I'd be stoked to have that camper. _________________
