Are these tanks really needed? Couldn't are regular fuel vent system work as well, infact isn't that what the charcoal filter is for? Thanks, Jason |

Yes, they are needed. The reason is clearer if you have the tank out and examine the odd shape of the tanks top surface. Note the lowest point of the surface is in the center running for and aft. This provides a run for hoses, shifter, etc., but divides and isolates the tank's uppermost volume. On the left and right sides of the tank at the forward end are the highest points of that volume. Without the accumulation tanks, during fill-up each of these areas can trap air that cannot be displaced quickly enough by the incoming fuel. The volume of the accumulators not only insure a complete and spill-free fill up, but act as a reserve volume when more fuel vapor or air than the closed system can process is present. This eliminates the possibility of saturating the carbon and/or the buildup of excess pressure when the tank is full. Hope this helps. |
