'76 westy that used to have a FI 2000 cc engine in it.
These wires (one brown, one red) are in a casing that goes into another casing, which goes through the firewall and up to the double relay. Three sets of encased wires go into one.
There is a red wire in one other casing that goes to the starter solenoid.
Another set goes to the transmission.
These two wires appear as though they used to go upfront (under the bus) and were cut. They probably don't go to the front?
I know the brown comes out as ground at the double relay, but I'm unsure
as to where the red wire goes, and what it does.

The '76 fuel pump is on the right side. I will be putting the new pump on the left, like the '77 and later are mounted.
The wires to my existing pump go up into a harness that is on the right side of the engine compartment only.
I'm dismissing that it goes to the pump. Any other places it could go? Would there be a reason for wires to head toward the front of the bus from the double relay? _________________ '76 Deluxe Campmobile |

Tom - Sorry - I didn't realize things had changed between 76 & 78. Might be something to add to Inky's list of differences. _________________ Steve

I have never seen any factory bay window FI bus have the fuel pump any other place then on the left side.
All are there.
What makes you think your 76 had the pump factory install on the right side?? |

No clue Karl, other than the fact that the existing pump is on the right side.
My bus had no engine when I bought (still doesn't, haha), but the pump on it is on the right.
It could have been butchered and moved to right side previously.
I thought I had read they were on the right for early FI. _________________ '76 Deluxe Campmobile |

Yikes, it's a Facet!
Well, you did say it USED to have FI.
Even if you stick with a carb(s) I suggest you dump that pump. _________________ “To find yourself, think for yourself”

I'm going to have to agree with the folks who said these wires once went to the fuel pump, which is mounted driver's side for ALL '75-'79 buses. Red is 12 Volts positive and Brown is "earth" or Ground for the pump. (nice 091 trans too)
Sometimes repairing the work done by a previous owner is half the battle. |

Tom - Mine is a '78, but maybe this will help. I have three pairs of wires that come from the double relay and go forward on the drivers side.
1) Pair 1 = A red wire and brown wire that goes to the fuel pump
2) Pair 2 = Two red wires that goes to the starter
3) Pair 3 = Goes to the back-up switch on the transmission
Maybe you still have pairs 2 & 3. _________________ Steve

fuel pump mounting for 75 is unique, 76 is unique. 77-79 are all the same.
75 has the pump on the outside of the left frame rail, in front of the rear cross-member. pump is pointed front-to-back. this location may only be for vehicles with a BA6 heater, but all the 76 Buses i have seen have it here.
76 has the pump ON the rear cross-member, the back side, pointed side-to-side.
77-79 is mounted on the left frame rail above the axle. _________________ SL |

Sorry I was away, but thanks for the help everybody.
1) I won't be using the current setup with the Facet pump. That
will be history.
2) It's now certain to say those mystery wires are indeed the to fuel pump, which was orignally on the back cross member (per Scott).
3) The new setup with the new pump will be setup for FI and will
be mounted on the left rail ala the '77-'79's.
Thanks again. _________________ '76 Deluxe Campmobile |
