I'm a new vanagon owner, but not new to VWs. I've rebuilt a type I and type III engine before, but am now looking at my 1st try at a vanagon air cooled version. When I removed the air cleaner box, I saw this electrical connector hanging loose below it (see image of beige cord & round plug with 3 prongs). I do have a BA6 heater if the question comes up/makes any difference. Also, the PO shortchanged me on several key items: EGR system components (ALL); cooling air flaps & thermostatic controls (ALL)....I'm sure more fun awaits. Any idea wher this belongs? Also, I noticed the smaller port to the deceleration valve is threaded on the inside. Does some other part go in there before the braided hose?

Sounds like the dealer diagnostic plug. It was originally mounted on the back of the alternator. Pretty worthless today. You can just tape it back on itself or wire tie it out of the way.

Thanks...I guess that sounds believable. It doesn't head toward the ECU, though. It looks like it runs behind the #1 intake runner & back to the front end of the intake air distributor.
Also, any guess as to why the smaller diameter tube from the deceleration valve is threaded on the inner diameter? Does some vacuum activated control arm screw into that?
