I have on my 67 camper bus, non vanity "699 UFO". Years ago I almost got a vanity plate that read "PRTY BUS" for party bus. Yes used to party in my bus years ago. I decided to keep the original plate.

I had a vanity plate on my 69 vert that read " VW CONVT". My buddie Louie used to call me the VW convict. Also VW convention.

My all time favorite was "3M T33'.

Write it on a piece of paper and look at it from the other side of the paper.

Quite possibly the coolest VW related license plate I've ever seen was a yellow 1956 California plate owned by Tony from Pasadena. It reads

"GTV 666" as in EMPI GTV and the number of the beast. It's super cool cause it's just so random and only means something to the few people who recognize it's significance.

In '71, I think it was, had to be one of the first California vanity years, I saw a yellow on blue plate, RER NTRY. It was on a '63 Panel front and back.

One of my favorite non-vanity plates I ever saw was on an early 60's Bug here in Nor Cal. They were original black/yellow plates: "BIG 001"

No kidding.

Back in the California black-on-yellow and then the yellow-on-black days there were people wainting in line at the DMV and they'd give you cuts and then push back in line just in time to get certain combos. It was sick. There were even "hired" people to do it. I think it may have been what prompted the vanity craze. Someone had a list of outlandish random ones, once. Different cities got different batches and people would drive to other cities just to fight for the combos. Sheesh.

I am into the quasi vanity YOM plates. I have ones that have model numbers captive in them (211, 231, etc.) I also go after single digit plates. here is a california one that I think will work fairly well for an original california bus that I have:

Now that's one retarded neighbor. I would have kicked him in the eye just for having a plate like that.

I always wanted to get a plate that says NERIJ8U or somethin like that...just completely random letters to make people spend hours trying to figure out what it says.

Why not---"3M TA3" Question Or is that too obvious to the DMV folks??

Yes I think the DMV dudes would catch that one. I was surprised to see the 3M T33 made it on a car.

This one was funnier in the late eighties when anything high tech was the rage.

It's still accurate though.

He's still got that one.....although I don't think it's mounted on the front of his roof rack anymore.
