|
|
When we picked up our 66, we found out that Indiana does allow for YOM plates. The DMVs website was even helpful enough to have pictures of these plates.
After looking into it, we decided to just go for the historical plate in Indiana. I may have a picture of it, but it isn't a vanity plate.
Why did we go historical?
1-they are doing the bicentennial plates a couple of years early, and those look hideous. If Indiana was still the state I grew up in, I would honestly consider it, but nowadays, I barely recognize it.
2-YOM plates were (at least correct chronologically in this fashion) sesquicentennial plates. Generic Black or navy blue with yellow or white letters, the wife wasn't impressed with the look of the plate, and I was less impressed with having to pay an addiitonal fee after having to track down and find the plate myself to pay to the BMV.
3-Vanity plates are also an additional fee to the BMV.
4-Indiana also has specialty plates for additional fees. Universities, charities, etc. One of them even has a picture of Garfield the cat on it.
5-All of these extra fees not only go to the state coffers, and some in which the charity they espouse, but they also split it up between the democratic and republican parties. So, as a matter of principle, I don't believe we will ever get one of those again. (We used to have the one for the local children's hospital.)
6-We could've gone with the controversial "In God We Trust" license plate, but because of some lawsuit, this will be the last year they are offered in Indiana.
One last thing about the historical-I had heard and researched about how difficult it was to procure a historical plate. With the shape of the VW bug at the time we were registering it, needless to say, I was sweating it because any over-zealous BMV staffer or policeman might have a thing or two to say about safety.
However; it went painlessly. The beetle was in the brake shop anyway (never go to Mida$) and after looking at the registration, to verify the year of the car, they proceeded with the antique/historical plate.
I received it in the mail. I still don't have a proper license plate bracket for it, it is attached with some baling wire to the license plate light assembly.
I can probably scare up some pictures of that if anybody is interested.

Other than just being a reminder that it's a CAR and not a plane (!) , the plates on the 58 show my birthday, September 13th, 913, which is also the missing Porsche number : 911, 912, ___, 914!

One my uncle always wanted to do was POORISH, which I may use when I do mine. The '68 YOM plates in Oklahoma are nothing to exciting. They do have a provision on the YOM plate re-use form to specify the color. It could be cool to make an OK version of the Cali black plates. _________________ I have a German look bug, it was built in Germany and looks like it.

I thought I'd post this here.
Being that Heb #6 was discovered in Hershey PA, about an hour and half away from where I found this, what do you think are the chances that this plate was ever registered to the car? I live twenty minutes from where I got the plate.
This particular style plate was issued from 1965-1970

I would think that "BTUPVDUB" would have made more sense, but as long as you like your plate who cares. _________________ Formerly known in the forums as "OVALTEEN"
