correct. I believe that the linings for a '54 are the same as a '68 beetle. _________________ .

I think so too... in fact your barndoor has the same stopping power as a 68 beetle
You could look it up in the parts list (url in my sig) and see if is a bug p/n for the lining for bd shoes... if you have a bug parts list (is there one online?) you can cross reference it. I bought 68 bug wheel cylinder rebuild kits for re-doing the front cylinders of my 53, the rear bd cylinders are the same as the fronts of an oval, and even the mc rebuild kit is the same as a bug one. You can use a 55-66 bus mc on the 54, but the brake pedal will be REALLY hard. I ran that in my '53 for a while. I heard the early porsche one fits and has the correct ID, though that costs ~$200 (?). I think the front flex hoses are bug, rears are same as 55-67 bus.
basically, the only hard to find items are the front cylinders, and the correct MC
There should be no problem getting your shoes re-lined. Finding the shoe cores at your local brake place, however, is a different story. _________________ The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project http://oacdp.org/ |
