Proof that they cheat!
Near me, there are 3 close gas stations:
A Speedway, and a Thorton's on the corner, a Mobile about .3 miles up the road.
The Thorton's & Speedway were almost always the same price. The Mobile was always about 30-40 cents more per gallon. (Whats up with that?!?)

Last week, Thorton's & Speedway were at $2.09 for regular. Mobile was $2.49

Over the weekend, Thorton's shut down for remodeling.
Speedway immediately jacked up the price to $2.39.

There's another Speedway about 3 miles away, on a slightly less major street.

Their price, $2.04

Yeah, we're getting bent over again here in SoCal. Oil is in the mid $40/bbl. range or basically a buck a gallon. The cheapest station with "decent" gas (no Arco) is $2.999/gallon for 91 octane premium. Tell me it takes $2/gallon to refine and distribute gas. Probably closer to half that. I guess we're all supposed to drive Teslas now.

Gas prices rose in the area due to the busted pipeline in Alabama. Most of the entire southern east coast was affected. Many gas stations ran out of gas, some price gouged (which they say is illegal). Lasted about a week. People pushed the panic button and went out and filled every jug they had with gas, which, of course, made it worse. Kind of like the threat of cold weather here - as in it might snow - makes everyone go out and buy 6 loaves of bead and 5 gallons of milk.

Anyway, its settling back down now.

Further Proof:
Prices have gone up a little by me.

The price at the more reasonable Speedway is $2.29/gallon. The gouging Speedway price is $2.49/gallon, same as the always more expensive Mobile station up the street.

And here’s the kicker: You can find gas cheaper than $2.49 in the city. I cannot remember EVER seeing cheaper prices in the city than the ‘burbs. EVER! This Speedway has broken the model!

I wonder if both Speedway stations have the same owner?

Go to Costco it's anywhere from 20-30 cents cheaper per gallon. You can also buy non ethanol fuel here if that's your pleasure. Very Happy. Unrelated but tourists must detour down to Marshall brewing Co. and partake of the craft beer or Mc Nellies downtown. Very Happy

What if Costco is 45 miles away? Is it still worth the drive?

Indoor plumbing came along a decade ago, but reliable electrical service is a recent luxury. Wink

Change your legislators. That added gas tax ( that was added on top of the already high gas tax) a few years back didn't help you guys a bit. Wait until the GPS mileage tax pilot program finishes and becomes a reality for everyone who drives in the state. The reason they are going to the GPS is because the state robbed the gas tax for the roads and is using it in the general fund ( Like Social Security was raided ). Up to you guys living there to change who is running the state.

Depends where you live here. The westside of LA I avoid like the plague. It's not so bad where I am (the Costco is 15 min. away and actually a few miles) but my humble hometown is basically the size of Pocatello. So, yeah, a bit different than Idaho.

I grew up in the L.A. southern beach area and left there in 2006. We come back to see the kids, grand kids and great grand kids twice a year. Paradise ruined and turned into a ZOO. Was such a great place when I was a kid.

It is nice that we can all make the choice of where we want to be, and what level of chaos/sophistication/indoor plumbing we want to deal with. Everything we have mentioned is a trade-off for something else. If we could all have it all, there would be nothing left to have.

Profound, or have I just not yet had enough coffee? Laughing
