I just replaced the oil dipstick "o" ring and the crankcase breather tower "o" ring seals on my '84 Westy. Both were very hard and britle. Just wondering if this would mean that my flywheel seal and crank seal would be the same. They are not leaking but might just be a matter of time. I have the motor out right now and would be a lot easier to replace them now than latter. Any opinions/experience with this? Thanks

You do have a point. Yes they probably ARE. But, if it ain't broke don't fix. The next time you do a clutch, (80,000-100,000 miles), it takes about 3 minutes to pop out the rear main seal and maybe 5 minutes to put the new one back in.

Until you have leaks or needing a clutch replacement, keep good oil in the boxer...heat and acid kills

But you do have the engine sitting on the shop floor.....water pumps are real easy now too, especially since the crank pulley will be off while you're replacing the front seal...
