|
|
The other night I ordered the 7mm (ID) fuel line that BusDepot provides:
http://www.busdepot.com/n0202811
To go with it, I also ordered these hose clamps: ABA no-pinch for 7 to 8.5mm (OD) hose:
http://www.busdepot.com/21008
After the order confirmation email came I then realized that I had bought ID hose, and OD clamps.... I don't know why but I thought I read that hose as OD as well!
I've seen this thread:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=255442
The first response suggests ABA clamps (BusDepot ones say ABA) and when following the link to the recommended hose clamps, the size says 14.5-16mm? Maybe I just don't understand the sizing here.
Will I be able to use these clamps I've already bought or should I correct my order mistake? I've read a bit on ratwell and searched here, have there been any better or more recent ideologies on fuel hose and clamps? Open to all suggestions. Thanks! _________________ [url=http://www.vw-mplate.com/mplate2-23356.png]Click to view image/URL] |

The ones you bought I probably have a bag of and they are not as nice a rolled edge as the factory part number. Scott at German Supply is a good source for clamps. It also looks like you also bought Continental braided hose. That hose works well and is excellent however it leaks more fuel through the pores than modern hoses. I took that off my bus because I got tired of smelling fuel all the time in the garage. What happens is that slcohol in modern fuels migrates thru that type hose enough to smell it if your nose is sensitive. When you own a bus because of fire risk you will get used to sniffing near the air vents when you walk by it in the garage. The Gates 30R14 Barricade hose in this thread below worked best for many of us. The Continental you ordered is also used by many here. Your hose will be the 30R9 standard probably which holds up well and is wonderful hose but it allows more fuel to evaporate than later standards. The alcohol in fuel makes it worse. You want the best clamps available so they minimize the stress on the rubber when they are tightened. Factory clamps have a really nice rolled edge.

Thank you for the advice! I suppose I should mention, I have a '78 FI bus. I've only ever run premium gas in it since I've had in in fear of the alcohol additives. _________________ [url=http://www.vw-mplate.com/mplate2-23356.png]Click to view image/URL] |

i use those same clamps (ABA 21012) when i do fuel lines because they are such a snug fit.
but, just for ease of instalation i would recommend the next size up from the clamps Tcash has suggested.
the ABA part number you want is 21013 _________________ 88 Van WBX, A/T - 13 JSW TDI 6M/T - 2012 Touareg TDI Sport |
