Why did you go with Biasply? |
Searching for fuel economy, the narrowest tires I could find and they're f*cking fantastic. I've put about 200 miles on them so far, highway-rain-city. |
I only ask as most people do the radials - mostly for the performance. Id of thought the bias plys have you wander more on the road - especially highways and freeways with semi grooves in them. The Bias tend to ride the ruts like a train on rails. And aren't they harder to get?
I love the vintage look _________________

The design of a radial tire allows the sidewall of the tire to be more flexible. This characteristic reduces rolling resistance, providing better gas mileage and longer tread life. This flex gives the radial tire a bigger footprint on the road so it grips better, and enhances both wet and dry handling. |

The August, 1968, Consumer Reports awarded its top two spots to radials and documented the new technology's longer life, increased safety, handling, and economy relative to even top-of-the-line bias-ply tires.
The advantages of radial tires include longer tread life, better steering characteristics, and less rolling resistance, which increases gas mileage. |
I can't vouch for their technical authority, but their thought process is sound. These cars are not American -Excess-Specialty Chryslers that needed the softer bias-ply handling characteristics to be well-mannered on the road like those behemoths of the fifties and sixties did. _________________ Learn how your vintage VW works. Nah, they are fine, even better on the highway than the radials I took off. At lower speeds, say under 40mph I have noticed the bus is more sensitive to cross winds but every other aspect is better than radials.
I test drove them in the rain and have put probably 40 miles on with wet pavement, they are super sticky so no issues there. My ride has gotten much softer and more enjoyable, tire noise is non-existant. Railroad crossing has never been so beautiful.
The claimed flat spot after sitting is so minimal it is only noticeable if you're looking for it and the engine is fully warmed up/purring, it goes away in a mile or so.
I drove around 50 highway miles in sever storm winds and double that in normal weather, my bus barely moves now when a semi truck passes me... your guess is as good as mine on that one, I was floored.
The shocks I've got on right now were NOS USA made from the 70's or 80's, they were great with the radials but too soft for the bias ply. I had plans for Konis anyways, they'll be on it a couple of weeks. |

I had Bias on an old notch I owned - Made the car feel like a Cadillac in a good way - soft and air ride like you say. _________________

Found the tire size that I like (175/55 R 15) for the front.

31x10.5-15 just a little bit bigger. They're wrapped on some of Smitty's Smoothies. He makes custom sizes, I got my front and rears in 0 offset _________________ Wash your hands
