|
|
I'm adding a 2nd alterator to my bus to run all my accessories. I have AC so I have an air compressour. If you go to Gallery up top and go under 68-79 Kombis, go to to page 37, 3rd picture down and this is what my motor looks like without the 2nd altenator. I know I will have to make my own bracket. Anyone have any advice before I get started?
*What alterator I should use? Atleast 110 amps.
*The smaller the better. In size.
*Any already made backets that I could modify?
*Have more pictures of this type of set up?
*Knows the guy who owns the bus in the picture?
Thanks for you time.

What accessories are you running? List them. |

Why not just find one big one say out of a police cruiser and make it work. We got a place here all they do is auto and marine electrics. You bring it in they rebuild it. Ask around and find a place like that and talk to them they may be able fix you up with an alternator that bolts rite up. Then if your 50 miles from nowhere you can fix it with the stock spare you're carrying in order to get back home. Remember the KISS principle. Keep it simple stupid!
No offense intended

Applying the KISS principle to make all this work is a contradiction. |

Assuming you're running a second (hopefully deep cycle) battery or two, there's not much wrong with the idea of running a second alternator, but I'd give serious thought to what you really need first.
For instance, DC-powered TVs generally won't even start at much below 12V. If you intend to run an inverter, they can be particular too. Then there's refridgerators...
Best to chart total draw of your devices, then buy appropriate batteries, THEN figure out if you need a second or third charging source.

the pic on page 37 is a nice set up. very clean. but I would not do it quite like that. many years ago I mounted a second alt. on a baja bug. I put a metal plate under ther alt. pedistal. (4 bolts) and mounted the second alt to the plate. It worked well and the plate did not raise the hight of the doghouse very much at all.
