I have an original dated 12/57 low light ghia trip speedo that is in very very good shape. I have had a few bug and bus ones but was wondering how rare these are and what is the worth of it. I am not looking to sell it due that it is the original one to my car. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, David _________________ Strength through Joy |

Wouldn't it be the same style of trip speedo used on a Pre '60 beetle? 80mph & clear needle? If so, figure $400-$600 |
No, low light ghias are different. Black needle center with a chrome ring, 90 mph, big jewel-- this is a rare beast.

Interesting speedo....what is the dot/light between the 40 and 50?
Any chance of a pic of the back of the speedo? |

I don't think they're worth much more than a beetle trip speedo. It's the law of supply and demand at work.
They might be 10X rarer than a beetle version, but at the same time there are 10X as many beetle owners looking for one at any given time too so it balances out. I think the $400-600 guesses are pretty fair myself.
Of course this is what ebay is all about. Find two guys who need one at the same time and get them bidding and who knows where it might end. |
