What makes early ovals so different from late ovals?
Thanks again for the info. Very Happy

The differences are subtle and not obvious, but the body stampings are much cleaner and defined on the early cars. The fenders have a different shape near the running boards and a more defined shape around the headllights. Inside the doors, there is a "ribbing" or indentation below the windows that is more obvious. The headliner, cloth seat material, and carpet is a higher quality on the early cars. There are many other differences but not as obvious to the untrained eye. The car got cheaper every year it was produced........In fact, the '53 oval was the most expensive oval ever made.

This is a quantitative as well as a subjective issue.

Quantitative being the many things that the earlier Ovals have ie; Ribbed Doors, 3 fold Ragtops, Semaphores, European Bumpers (for the most part).

Subjective being that many aficionados *prefer* earlier cars over later (to each their own). I prefer Ovals in general, but '55 and earlier specifically due
to the above reasons (Euro-centric styling/options, and because I got lucky and found a '55 Ragtop).

Many people will give you their specific reasons why they prefer the earlier cars. The list of differences is too lengthy to go into detail, but a *lot* of ppl
here would prob be happy to chime in w/ more of the major ones.

Earlier the better, plain & simple. Who would choose a 1964 Beetle over a 1958 for example? The cars being in the same condition & the same price? 99% would choose the earlier car.

if 53's were different from 54's are different from 55's, how is the 54 "normal"? I'd say Normal is boring. I like different cars. i.e a 55 3 fold, ribbed door car with bullets and and towel racks, from the factory? Now thats cool. Those 54's are plain at best. Thats why I sold mine. Very Happy Cool

my aug of 54 came with overriders but will have euros cuz a 3 fold looks just wrong with overriders in my opinion and I'm sure if your 54 would've been a og rag you would've of kept it, also pimple fenders are ugly
