I've been buying parts for my shop from Bug City for several months now. I always get good information from Dave on different options (German, Brazil, Chinese, etc.), prices are fair and shipping is consistently on time, usually the next day. Thumbs up from me!

I've only recently started dealing with Bug City. I must say to date (two transactions) I've zero complaints. I'm in NJ and have ordered two tow bars from him. He has been helpful and informative. The shipping is prompt and spot on.
Recently acquired a Ghia and a Super. I plan / need to purchase a fair quantity of parts.
Being in the North East I'm sure I'll not only deal with him for freight savings but he is also only a little over 2 hrs away if I want to take a drive and get something big or absolutely need it TODAY.

I'll post if things change, but to date........... Applause

Just wish his web site had more drawings and pictures, particularly for body parts.

Dave

Not so positive here, I got a quote for some distributor caps and shipping. It took me a little over a week to gather the funds and when I went to make payment the price had gone up 15% and shipping had increased by $1.00. When I asked for them to honor the original quoted price I was refused and told that thier "prices go up daily". They are obviously not too interested in customer service in my opinion.

The new Bug City website is SO much better than the old one. It looks better, has more images, is better broken up into sections, and is overall easier to use.

They have almost anything you'd want and, in addition, they stock lots of NOS and used German parts alongside current repops.

I've had to call up and ask questions and have gotten excellent help.

I live in New York and tend to get my orders 1-2 days after I place them.

Unless you're buying a specialized part from a noted rebuilder or something that can only be bought used, give Bug City a shot. Especially if you're in the Northeast.

Dave has some of the hardest and most sought after parts as well..though not for the "cheaper" minded people....they are there as well.

...BTW, NOS,german and even simple "real" tune up parts are hard to find these days and only getting harder...don't be surprised if what you thought was going to be a "cheap" tune up using German parts...in a few more years, will be like tuning up a Ferrari.

I'm not surprised Dave did that. I hope when people sell him parts at the VW's shows swap meets, they know who they are selling too. Twisted Evil I wouldn't give him any good deals. I won't buy from Dave, or sell to Dave.
Buy your vw parts from other vendors.

I'd rather wait the week to get parts from the west coast than drive the 1 street over and give him my cash.

I saw a lot of used vendors at the Litchfield CT show, give Dave real good deals on parts. A few asked Dave to give them good deals on parts the next time they order from him. Twisted Evil

When Dave is buying, he's not f'in around. He's there early, with cash and makes up his mind quickly. I'd rather have the parts sold early and not be packing them up again at the end of the day.

Dave took the time to look at my wife's car this past Friday when she drove up to his store to purchase some parts, and told her what was needed and what was not needed, toward solving the issues at hand. He could have sold her unnecessary parts but did not.

Our experiences in dealing with Dave is that he is a straight shooter, and we are happy to have him nearby in CT as a quality parts and advice source for our getting-rarer-by-the-minute old VWs.

About half my bus is from Bugcity. I grew up about 30 minutes away and restored my bus @ a friends garage in Bristol, CT. My friend used to be one of his shop minions and both she and I are easily on a first name basis w/ him and his wife. That said, there are some things to be known when dealing w/ him.

Dave is a businessman for better or worse.

He has wonderfully insightful good days, and some days where you get your parts and go.

He literally knows everything there is to know about our hobby, Everything.

If you have a question, call him. If you can pick up a part in person, do so. Once he knows you and your project(s) it's smooth sailing.

If you have a bug, he has the part. If you have a bus, not always, but 90% of the time he does.

If I can, I always choose bugcity. Cool

I second what Ken wrote.

Dave came through a number of times on my ghia resto for parts that were hard to find and sold them to me for a fair price.

He is a wealth of knowledge and I'm glad to have him in CT. I always call Dave and tell him what I need, 9 times out of 10 he's got it, and it's either NOS or better quality than the crap you get elsewhere.

I see a lot of people on here buying parts from him, but has anyone had him rebuild anything? He's got my Weber 40 IDF's slated for a rebuild and I'm curious about the quality of his work...

I called Dave at 10:30 this morning, told him I needed a good used single port intake manifold for my 1600 single port 1970 engine (to replace the clogged and rusted-through one on the car). Dave told me no problem, gave me a price, and I drove up there and had a nice used, usable German intake manifold in my hand by 1pm. THANKS DAVE.

I tracked down a rare part that I was watching on ebay to Bug City. When I initially contacted Dave he gave me a price and showed me a picture of the part. It was not on his website.

When I re-contacted him two days later to make a trade offer or payment he said he "made a mistake" and the part was no longer available. C'mon Dave, really? His most recent "mistake" was that he sold it to a "crazy guy in Columbia" during the two days it took me to get back to him. I want to say that he had the part for almost a full year according to the ebay seller funny that it went away so fast after my inquiry.

This is my second bad experience with Dave, I only dealt with him again because of the rareity of the part he doesn't now want to sell and the fact that the ebay seller sold it to him and not someone more forthright.

Straight Shooter? NOT.
