If you want to be patient, track down a pair of VW Australia headlight guards:
Cost over $200 with last set I saw sold, but they are the cleanest in design...... _________________ Scott |

Look through a few Porsche catalogs and you'll find repops. They aren't cheap but hey, you gotta roll how you gotta roll.
I found mine on Ebay. They're repops but I like them. I'd totally trade them for a set of cast ones though. _________________ Barndoor Mafia

I have the same ones, and they are the best looking ones out there. _________________ Your Vanagon sucks, Stop waving at me.

For comparison here's what I'm running. The grills are horizontal and vertical, not diagonal. I had to drill a small hole in the headllight ring to mount them but totally worth it. I've seen others that have a clip that goes over the ring itself in either 1 or 2 places.

I got mine on Ebay at a place called Fast Classics. They also make some that will fit the porsche headlight lenses (h4 type) that I picked up. They clip on the ring in two spots and then use the headlight screw to secure it. I think they look good and work slick (yes I said "slick" like the old dudes do).
I paid 128 + 15 shipping for the bug/bus guards. I bid on the porsche ones and gottem for 71 + shipping (128 buy it now).
The guys shipping response time is a little sketchy. Make sure you follow up and ask for a tracking number or something. Got the bus ones in a week, but took over a month for the porsche grills to get to me.
I'll try to get a close up today sometime when my son goes down for his nap.

I used to have a jeep cj7 that had what looked like to be the same grill that would protect the headlights and turn signals. I'm not sure of the diameter of the headlights on the old jeeps but with maybe a little modification they might be made to fit a bus. I might be worth looking into considering the kits for the cj's are a quarter the price. _________________ "Crisis does not Create Character, it merely Reveals it." |

They, (the jeep item) are considerably smaller. Will work on type 3, post '67 bugs, but not on a pre-'67 bug or bus. Mark Merz sells porsche repops For $150/pr. here on the samba. |

Hi RM. Krylon Fusion paint (for plastic and works with other materials). Comes in a spray can like all they other off the shelf paint. You can buy it from your local autoparts/hardware store.
I sprayed on about 6 coats or so.... it worked better than I thought it would. A couple chips pushing the rubber in with a screw driver, but easily touched up.
Here is a link:

That guy sucks! BUYER BEWARE. Check his feedback. Did business with him twice and both times he was a ballsack. Never again! Still owes me headlight buckets I'll never see. |
