Bedliner/Herculiner/Rhinoliner

Hey all!

Since our wonderful Things are so prone to rusting I was pondering using a bedliner type product on my new floor pans (when I get some.) We use the do-it-yourself herculiner stuff in the bed of our truck and it wears like iron! I also noted that Rhino says they can color match, so I'd be able to get it in Acapulco blue! I thought maybe when the pans got here I could have them done before attaching them to the Thing to allow the best possible coverage top and bottom...and then hopefully the pans would remain rust free for many many years. Also the bedliners are pretty maintainence free as well.

Is this ok to do? It wouldn't harm the Thing in anyway would it?

I have been thinking of doing the same, I had it in my jeep for years with no problems. I do think you might want to apply it after installing the pans. Any welding could damage it. And I would not want it where it mounts to the bady and seal as well.

We used the roll on and brush on kind on our 63 Baja prerunner and it wears like iron. Very durable. My offroad Thing has POR-15 total coverage. It also wears well and bonds perfectly to rusted metal as long as you do the three step process. I would not put the coating in until pan sections were welded in place. Remember that a Thing and a Ghia have the same pan section shapes only the Ghia ribs go in a different direction. The best pan sections are said to be Danish. There was a company selling the heavy duty ones for a good price. I will search around and try and remember who was selling them. Anyone else remeber that company?

I used Durabak for my interior. It rolls on (kinda) and was fairly easy to do. Prep work was the hardest. Thus far it has worn well and cleaning out my interior is just a matter of grabbing the hose.

Durabak had a wider selection of colors and the price was also less.

As long as it was revived I will add.my $.02.
Raptor Liner sprays very well and is quite forgiving. It is also tintable. My plan is to redo my black lined Thing with tan.

I used Raptor liner in the tub and trunk. It was tinted same as the outside body color. Very happy with it.

I elected to NOT use the Raptor liner in the engine bay as I thought it may it more difficult to clean oil and grease from the texture.

I used Monstaliner on the pan. It took one gallon on the top and one gallon on the bottom.

I did the raptor liner on my floor pans after powder coating and my wheel wells too. You can roll it on, but spraying will give much better results. Use the gun from the kit. It can be done outdoors if you prefer - the gun is very controllable and it’s fast - I think I did the pans which used about 3 bottles of the raptor liner in less than 30 minutes. Cleanup was easy and I have used the gun several times since.

Raptor offers two different guns. A cheapo and one that has a few more adhustments.
It also comes in spray cans but obviously color choices are limited that way. They also recommend a primer. Lots of recommendations and instructions for getting a good finish out there.
