should i attempt to do this my self?
is it really that difficult if you have a good background in metal work/body work and engine work?
or should i leave it to the pros?
case is a new as41 and it is a cb 82 crank

Geez...only been a couple hours Rolling Eyes

Not everyone who has the knowledge or is willing to post up is here 24-7 Wink

With that said 82 stroke can require alot of clearancing... I would leave it to a pro who has done it many times before...

Don't be so impatient. Your post was only up two hours...... Cool

What rods do you have?
CB's H-beams require very little at the cam.

I just did one and took about .040" off between the lobes and squared off the back of cam thrust bearing area.
Be sure to leave a nice radius on that cut.

Case requires quite a bit, leave that to someone who has done one before.

The cam is not that big an issue, the case is could be another thread in itself......... Wink
I order mine pre-machined so I don't have to go through all that trial fitting, machininging, cleaning and trial fitting again.
CB has a super case that generally needs nothing in the way of clearancing. Just double check the assembly and start the process.

That was not done with a dremel.
You'll be grinding on that thing till this time next year with one of those.
I used to try to do that clearancing with an air grinder and a burr tool, had enough of that in short order.
Dremel can only be worse.
The 4th picture down has had a lot of meat removed.
Doubt if it can be done with any precision with hand/air tools.
That is where the rod throws from the opposite side of the case swing through.
Those need to be pretty exact.

Notching the cam is great as long as you index the notches with the rod throws.
Those CB rods are pretty thin at the cap so I usually just turn down the cam between the lobes.
No more than needs to be removed you won't have a problem doing it that way........if you have a lathe that is.

Good move........you won't regret not getting that crap all over your shop.
Magnesium chips/shavings would get into everything.........

You take it outside to blow off all the junk. All that Mag laying around in the garage is a NO-NO to me. Fire is not funny to happen to anyone.

I machine, then I clean.

How you like them flowers? Razz
