If anyone in the So. Cal bus scene knows who Steve Harris is please keep his wife in your prayers. A few weeks back she was driving Steve's 62 DC and was broad Sided. Thank God the kids were not in the bus. While she was wearing a seat belt, it apparently failed and she was thrown from the bus. She is recovering but life will not be the same. His family needs all the prayers they can get right now.
Steve would like to get out the word that lap belts are just not enough and that shoulder belts would have kept his wife in the bus. I do not know the details of the accident but it sounds like she was hit pretty hard in the center of the passengers side.
If anyone knew Steve, I can pass along any messages to him. Suffice to say he will not be at any of the shows this weekend. |

Let Steve and his wife know that I am thinking about them and wish her a speedy recovery. Steve is a great guy and his wife has to be even better putting up with him.

My friend and I were tossed out of this bus at 50mph, no seat belts. Doc said with seat belts we would have had neck injurys. Rolled 3 times after being hit. After hitting the hwy, we could have been run over too I guess. I'm on the fence with seat belts. Hope Steve's family pulls through it.

My son bought a 65 bug with stock lap/shoulder belts. He has said he wants to go to just lap belts. He said shoulder belts are not cool. I have told him the safety factor of the shoulder belt far out weighs the not so cool factor. I will be telling him about this thread.
Steve, I hope your wife gets better soon.

Hate to hear about the accident. I will keep the family in my thoughts. Certainly going to have to put that seat belt on more often. |

i have 3" deist lap belts in my 65 panel. never malfunction like stock 2" cheap belts. i have the shoulder belts(deist) to also install . i dont like the idea of a belt crossing from one side to other like stock. i do like 2 shoulder belts tho'. i also have submarine belt i can install to have 5 point system. i use ones from drag cars as they have to change them out after 3-5 years. _________________ Admin note: Bill Passed away - July, 2017

shoulder belts probably saved me in a bug accident when I was 20 or so. mom made me put them in when I was 16, thanks mom!!!!
Although I do agree with bill, If we are talking safety, stock repops are not exactly the safest. those things pop open like a mofo _________________ Stop dead photo links! Post your photos to The Samba Gallery! |

I built a high compression motor for this guy who is probably a terroriist by now...but we were burning rubber and he lost the front end and we kissed a tree at 60 MPH.
My buddy was the front seat and his nose hit the dash so hard it put a dent in it!
Needless to say that was 15 years ago and we learned our lesson. _________________ Jack

when i bought my '66 Beetle it didnt have any seatbelts at all...which, in CA (as i learned from the CHP officer who bought my Baja Bug), isnt technically illegal as the car never had seatbelts, so therefore they cant legally ticket you for not wearing them....but even if i am only 17, i am some common sense, and promptly installed lap belts, because someone told me i couldnt put shoulder belts in a '66...but then i saw the plugs on the door pillar and realized shoulder belts could be installed, so i immediately went out and bought a set of shoulder belts to match the lap belts, and I moved the lap belts to the backseat, so now i have shoulder belts, and 4 matching seatbelts..... i was a little nervous about my being a new driver in a Beetle with only lap belts..... _________________ '58 Ragtop bug - 2276T (Re-assembly in progress!)
