I love the paint job even though I'm an OG-paint type of guy. The bus looks awfully high on the front wheels though--shocks too long?
Also, why doesn't "Butch, the sub-contracted body/paint guy at VW Island" wear a mask when he paints? Does he hold his breath? _________________ -- Jeff--happyhippo

It's cool and I like it 'cause it's custom! It was very neat to see the ABC, in which I am a proud member of, put out something entirely different from the usual "stock" buses. Hey and at least their ratio is 15:1..........15 Stock resto's to one custom. |

Well, I suppose the words "Custom" and "Good taste" don`t always go together. Thats not at all what I would consider "Custom" to be. _________________ If you`re going to do something, do it right. |

for all the folks who don't like the paint or scheme save your 50 cents and come next year for the 63 camper, or the year after for the stock semaphore single cab....the rest of you are welcome to come and enjoy a pure VW campout / show / experience we hope you'll enjoy and want to come back to again and again. We've done bone stock resto's for over 10 years and decided to mix it up....no lowering, no hacking....just a true Arizona paint job, custom interior and sweet running brand new 1776 to push her along. Enough said? _________________ 59 Standard

The bus has been won.
It was pretty cool looking...
Some guy next to me said the engine on it was great, but the transmission could have been better. I didn't really understand the little LCD screens by the floor though. Didn't stop me from wishing I was holding "the" ticket.
It was an AZ bus club member that won it with one of the special AZ bus club tickets. I kinda wonder if they felt different when drawing out a winner.
Me and my $9 in tickets didn't have a chance. I think they said something like 8,000 tickets were floating around.
Will post picks later if no one has them.
I wish I remembered the winner's name. _________________

Damn. Broke my heart not to win it. Bus had a long Flagstaff history and so do I. I thought some sort of Karmic action would happen but I knew I was out of drawing when they called the first digit on the winning ticket.
FWIW, I'da kept the paint job, for a while at least. It was a custom job but definitely not a hack job. For the purist out there, it'd be really easy to take back to stock.
Bein' around that many split busses sure makes me wanna add one to my stable. _________________ 83 1/2 Westy waterboxer
