Thanks to Koch's/Mac for actually rescuing the car from the mud |
They didnt rescue it from the mud. They restored it.
Jerry Parrot rescued it, James King sold it to them. _________________ GFK

qwerty, i got your cabrio twin
http://sossplitwindow.chez-alice.fr/split51cab.html
Car has been painted somewhere back in the 60 or 70... the rest is stock.
First top from the factory. One and only one owner from new.
Sometimes i wonder if i shouldn't take all those ugly accessories and signal lights from the body and get a new exterior paint ? What do you think ?

i don't think anyone said the car wasn't nice, quite the opposite. very nice looking vert, but for an asking price of $125,000 the car should be damn near perfect and "correct" is all. hell, if someone wants to pay that sum for the car "as is" great.
nonetheless, great looking car. compared to that other vert that sold only 6 months ago for $75,000 it doesn't compare in my opinion. not as nice and correct. and what a huge price difference.
i wish i had this vert though.....no question about it. |

all 3 verts here are sweet. the 2 green kabs are off the hook! og interiors rock
no haters here, just enthusiasts. get over it, & drop the pointless posts. zzzzZZ
kab (oval/split) rear windows - is the difference just in height?
can anyone tell me the height of an oval kab rear window, & a split kab rear window?
or point me to a place that contains this info?
i have a large sekurit logo rear window, & assume its a 53-55 (ie early oval) window
thanks _________________ -StockRocks- |

just thought i'd feedback on this
my glass is 173mm high by 670mm wide
i now reckon its a oct 52 to aug 55 window
the glass looks to have its og rubber (?cracking) and og chrome trim (blemished)
the chrome trim looks 8mm wide - i've since read (bod wilson book)that this reduced to 7mm in aug 55, and that the chrome trim wasnt introduced until oct 52 _________________ -StockRocks- |

Well, I know Mac Jones and I talked to him about this car. Guess what?? He loves it!! He told me and that's what is important here. I think I do have a right to talk about this because I have done a 50 vert and I am doing another one right now. Even with that right I would not want to criticize someone’s work because like Coad said no one knows the story.
It took me several months to get the correct pieces for the rear window of the 50 we did. I wanted to give up but some people bugged me untill I gave in. We also had to make the front seats, etc. Restoration on this year car is not easy. I respect any shop that can take a car like Bob did and get it to where it was at the VW Classic!! Bravo to you and the rest of your crew Bob!! The color is fantastic. When you have as many VW's as Mac does (oh, and the $$'s) you tend to stray away from all original colors and such.

Hi Lenny,
Any photos of this 50 vert on your site? I just peaked at "current restorations" and did not see any? Is this restoration one of the "under the radar screen jobs"?
P.S., great job on your site! I love to see some of these "wrecks" that you and your talented crew turn in to the "best of the best" in your photo series. |

I think all the above cars a real real nice. but that 51 with og top is to cool.
I hope to have my 50 back on the road in a year,It's been a long long road, I bought the car 15 years ago and finding parts back then was harder than today(no internet). lucky for me all the big $$ parts came with the car.
Wanted og rear window for 50 convert. |

I've seen some of Mac's VW collection from a past Hot VWs article, but wow on those early Porsches. A few years ago, Hemmings Motors Magazine had a television show hosted by Dennis Gage. There was an episode that showcased Mac's VW collection & even had some footage of his VW/WWII collection. Just a plain awesome collection. _________________ 1947 Typ 11a
