Chris Morely found the Rometsch taxi in Colorado. I made him what I thought was a good offer at the VW Classic - would have at least doubled and possibly tripled his investment - but no go - there were a few others interested but a deal was never made. I believe the car is under a blue tarp somewhere in LA...

Definitely stretched. IMO, a half-door like on some new cars and pickups (with no B-pillar) would be the best way to go on a non-stretched Beetle.

In the early 90s there was a white Rometsch 4 door in Berlin, seen driving on proper ( not red) plates - so therefore it was solid because it had passed the TUV. I had a close look at it and it was genuine, not one of the Mexico re-pops.

I heard that it was owned by the son of Herr Winter, the guy who owned the biggest VW dealership in Town at the time.

Is this one of your 5 or are there actually 6?

HI,
the ex Lottermann car is no orginal Taxi
There is an orginal Rometsch Oval Taxi, our Zwitter Taxi ( used to have a sunroof and was red ), the taxi from Chris Morley and the BBT taxi wich belongs me. It is the car from berlin from the vw dealer.
It is from 1952 and was alway modivied.
We will put it back to stock next year.
So there is a total of 4 orginal Rometsch proved known.
Bye Christian

The red car might be the Grundmann Zwitter taxi before it got restored.
That one had got an sunroof later wich was closed again in the resto.

It seems crazy there are only 4 known to exist. How many were made to begin with.

So does anyone know much about the 4 door convertible police cars. im sure i remember one for sale on ebay a while back?
