Westy Spotted in a very bad movie on the Scence Fiction Channel.
I can't remember the name of the movie, it wasn't worth watching anyway.

Funny you should bring this up. I was watching the original Breakfast at Tiffany's last night and noticed an old barn door bus in the NYC traffic as George Peppard & Audrey Hepburn are in the cab towards the end. |

In Jim Jarmusch's (Bill Murray) "Broken Flowers" you see a flash of one as he is driving down a country road from the driver's point of view looking out the window.

In Charlie's Angels (the first movie) the Angels are all dancing in lieterhosen (while Bill Murray plays a tuba) in front of a nice blue/grey Carat.
I don't know why I know this.

Gad, she's got that big old incandescent going in broad daylight. I bet she gets munched by the Beastie when she tries to start the Westy and escape. I like Dogpilot's Westy Observatory concept better.
Hmm... Vanagon Horror Movies. We've got so MUCH material...
"Phosphates? PHOSPHATES IN THE ANTI-FREEZE? YOU'VE KILLED US ALL!"
<villain fuels his Westy, smoking away... Gout of gas surges up... There is an explosion of flame>
"It seems to be drawn to the peculiar vibrations of our engine... I WARNED you not to use Autolite Plugs!"
Best! |

Probably the biggest TV appearance the Vanagon ever made was when one was used in the Magnum PI series. An 83.5 Wasserboxer with "Island Hoppers" painted on the side appeared in most of the episodes. It was T.C.'s van and used for his helicopter charter service.

The ABC show LOST has had a number of baywindow buses in multiple episodes, and in one of the last episodes of last season, there was a flashback scene where Charlie's band was fixing a flat tire on their late 80's Vanagon. The implication was that this ws their transportation as they toured all over the counrty playing concerrts.
Seems the producers have thing for VW van-types vehicles. _________________ 1985 Westy, 1.9L automatic (Daisy)

Scrubs - Season 4, Episode 1 - J.D. is cruising down the street on a scooter, and passes a late model Carat painted solid red, lots of toys on a rack system up top, w/a S. African headlight grill.
And saw part of some really lame movie on TV the other day w/The Rock & Stifler (from American Pie). Big explosive fight scene at the end, in some tiny Brazilian village, and as props there was a Karman Ghia (same color as mine when I was a kid), a bug, and a bay window bus.
Cheers!

Good list, but doesn't look like it's been updated in quite a few years. _________________ 1985 Westy, 1.9L automatic (Daisy)

Not really a good sighting but a sighting nonetheless.
01:50 minutes into it.

Love that show... I think the producers do have a thing for VWs. In a flashback when Ben's mom died, the people that pulled up to help them were driving a Karmann Ghia. |
