Here's the motor in my '54 sunroof. It is just about 100% correct except for the color of the distributor cap. If anyone sees something incorrect, please point them out & I'll rectify the problem.

Just a little question, The add says that the engine for sale LOOKS like this one. The photos are not of the one for sale. Get some of the one for sale before you buy it, It may be even more incorrect. Just my 2 cents OLDOVAL |
Thats because i bought the 54 motor he "had" for sale _________________ **WANTED** ONE 4 1/2 EARLY FUCH |

Jeez Kevin, you had me thinking there for a moment. There is no tarboard on the side panels, just on the firewall. What you see there is a reflection due to the curvature of the metal.
Here's a shot from the other side. See, no tar board.

Your ignition coil strap should not be painted Glenn. _________________ "What a fool believes he sees, no wise man has the power to reason away." Dobee, Dobee, Do |

Here's a '54 engine in a 216. Worked a bit to get it correct. Guess I gotta paint the generator nut this weekend. Thanks for the tip.

It looks like the wrong regulator to me. Look how it mounts and compare that with Rick's round regulator.
I think you have the wrong carburetor too. A '54 should not have a 28 PCI that says "28 PCI" on the side. I'm not 100% sure on that due to the angles of your photos.
I think the coil strap should be mounted with bolts, not screws? _________________ How to Post Photos

Damn!, Everette- good eye. It's a Porsche 356 12v generator. The regulator was a square version, so I trimed off the square cover & slid on a round regulator over the square innards.
I'll switch out the engine tin screws w/ 10mm bolts after I replace the coil bracket. _________________ 1947 Typ 11a

While we are being picky, why are the "Bosch" decals on the coil upside down ?
I mean, all the coils on all the air cooled's are inverted, you'd think they'd get the fucking sticker so's you could read it without slipping a disc !

The decal is upside down when mounted on a car. When the coils where on the dealer shelves, the decal would read Rght-side-up _________________ 1947 Typ 11a

We're not being picky.......Glenn asked for it.......so he's getting it. Correctness is a Science. Just like your comment on the sticker, you learned something today. _________________ "What a fool believes he sees, no wise man has the power to reason away." Dobee, Dobee, Do |

Try covering the intake with high heat ceramic coating inside and out OR block the opening in the heat riser. _________________ Rick Clark in Monterey County, CA USA

The heat riser on the #2 cylinder side gets hotter due to the fact the manifold attaches directly to the exhaust side of the head. The #4 side has a pipe that runs up to the heat riser & has time to cool down a little before entering the riser so heat doesn't affect it as much. _________________ 1947 Typ 11a
